...ok......i've just recently seen this program and now watch it everyday. i watch completely enthralled, i find him very Dominant......i think he's cured my barking problem and i hardly ever nip at company now...

Ha. I love that show. And when my cat is being particularly rambunctious, I put it on and he straightens right up - seriously, he sits up straight, right in front of the TV, and remains there, staring, through the whole show.

But yeah....I hear that "shhhhhhppppt" and I'm sitting up straight, too. heh.

Yeah, I don't think we will be seeing the "Cat Whisperer" anytime soon. Somehow that would just not be as entertaining given the daily routine of your average house cat; eat, nap, play, etc.

Mine has great fun on laundry day. Especially when the time comes to change the sheets. You would think the bed belongs to his fuzzy butt or something.

Oh I am so glad I am not the only one that has "help" changing the sheets. One 12# cat and one 10# dog, believe they need to be right in the middle of things. The cat will just lay on the bed as I am removing the quilt, moving only at the last minute with displacement is inevitable. Even then it is just off the quilt, not the bed.Then I pull the cases off the pillows and pull the sheets from the corners, making a big sheet nest in the middle where the cat is still acting like nothing is going on. I have to pick up the whole thing, sheet pile and cat, and deposit it on the floor.

As soon as I get the clean sheet he is back up there. I have gone so far as to have all three corners tucked in and working on the forth before he crawls out and on top of the bottom sheet. There he will stay, like a lump under the top sheet and quilt until the dog has pounced him beyond tollerance. That is when he crawls out, and on top of the quilt, to wrestle the dog.

Been watching him for a couple of years and yeh, well, get over it....There was one program where he was talking about his personal life and his family. He said he should listen to his wife more and do more of what she wants. Sorry to burst your "Dominant" bubble.
On another note...
While his training methods for dogs are ok, there are better and more successful approaches. He's been called out on some of his methods on the show by professional dog training organizations as well as I believe the SPCA. It was also admitted by National Geographic, who hosts his show, that much of what is on the show is theatrical, done for the tv audience and his offscreen training methods are much less intense. I've even noticed that his latest shows are much calmer and watered down than the previous years.

So he has been called out. He still gets the job done. I have used some of what he has shown and it works. Most dog handling problems are having whimpy owners. My son in law is a good example of that. He has to have both of his dogs on leashes to walk them. If not he has to chase them down. One of them even growls at him. When I take them for a walk I do not use a leash. They both behave very well. I can't stand bad behaved dogs or kids and I let them know it.

Dnomyar,

Some of what he has shown will work, I've used it too at times. Are they the best methods or will they work for all dogs or in all situations...no. And there are other methods, such as clicker training, that work better in many cases.
I disagree with your assessment about whimpy owners. Of course, that can cause handling problems. But most dog handling problems are a result of owners not knowing the breed well enough, not educating themselves well enough about dogs and dog training, not understanding how dogs interpret stimulus (both negative and positive) and lastly...this is a huge....treating their dogs like human beings instead of like dogs.
I concur that badly behaved dogs and kids should be dealt with and put in their place. Though it's all a matter of how we do it that makes the difference.

This really is the crux of most dog issues (although not necessarily wimpy, just uneducated/uninformed/untrained). All trainers seem to reach the same conclusion - the dog isn't the problem, the owner is. And yet you have SO many owners who, without realizing it, are causing the behavioral problems and then punishing the dog for misbehaving. It's really sad. So, whether Cesar's methods are mild, tough, whatever (I'd imagine he'd put the tougher cases on TV - that makes sense), he's getting the right message out.

Oh and I've done the shhhhhhppptttttttt thing to my cat. It caught his attention for awhile....and now he shrugs me off. I think I actually heard him laugh once...............

Oh... it's not the DOG! I used to love to watch the first season shows when that look of realization started to dawn on the owners' faces. It's never the dog! Oh sure, there is the occasional brain damaged, sick, or retarded dog, but by and large, it's the owner that causes "problem" dogs.
It's a relationship! Like any relationship, it's a two street. The dog has to get what dogs need out of the relationship or there will be problems. In that regard, Ceasar is 100% correct; excersize, discipline, affection!
As he says himself, he's not a dog trainer, he deals with them on a psychological level. Why do you think he spends so much time interviewing the owners before he even meets the dog? He wants to size them up and see what kind of environment and conditions and structure the dog lives in so he can better understand what the owners are doing wrong ... again, it's NOT the DOG!
And if you can't see the parallels between what he does and the roles of masters and slaves in this lifestyle then ...

i do the same thing with Bagheera....we're nose to nose and giving i'm him a piece of my mind...........and he ruins the moment by kissing my nose.......as if saying..."look lady just feed me and clean my litter.....nothing more, nothing less...."
