If the markets continue to bounce back and oil continuse to drop what will it do tho the Nov 4th Election.

I for one think stong markets and low oil prices are good for the nation. It means jobs, lower prices and restored confidence.

Who would be against it?

This is cool. When do I get my $700 billion dollars back? [;)]

I agree Bita That 7 Bil. should be paid back with intrest. I am sure that was built into the Bill.

"The Markets Bounce Back Big, Good News for McCain or Obama?"

It's good news for the working man..it's good news for the small businessman, it's good news for all of us who still have lives to lead, bills to pay, no matter who wins in November.

Lets hope that the positive actions over the weekend are the begining of the long road to settling down frozen credit markets around the globe.  Still economic dangers out there, and conservative use of funds should still be every persons top priority.

bipolarber -> RE: The Markets Bounce Back Big, Good News for McCain or Obama? (10/13/2008 1:36:20 PM)

It's bouncing back, yes. But, the bulk of foreclosures that triggered the slide in the first place is still out there. Only a small fraction of them have taken place so far. The market, and especially the lenders heavily invested in the housing market are still in a really precarious position.  I think we're going to be seeing some "yo-yo" activity for months to come. But yeah, Cory, you could be right... the sudden bounce back, with three weeks to go, might change things. It could be that McCain will go from "no way in hell" to skyrocket up in the polls to "just no way."

Color me a skeptic, FDD. Islamic clerics just yesterday were urging their brethen to buy, buy so as to profit off the collapse of American capitalism. A 900 point upswing is one of those .. 'damn, it sounds too good to be true so what's really going on here' things to me. Buy low, sell high.. hasn't that been the mantra of finacial experts since .. well, since there were financial experts?

I want steady and stable not this massive roller coaster. When I see evidence of that, I'll pop a bottle of bubbly and start to celebrate. When I see evidence of that, I'll start squawking for the $700 billion which was, basically, stolen by the government with no clear fix in site.

I don't think there is anyone who would argue that $ was meant to be a band-aid and that there is still a lot of work to do. If this upswing is maintained, I'll start to lose some of my skepticism. I'm a long-haul, slow-go kinda girl.

I think the average uninformed person...of which I'm one....feels the burden of the consequences of corporate greed was just shifted from those responsible and their shareholders to the general public...us. Most all agree they have been taken..BUT the blame for this mess will follow established political lines...With each claiming the other party  and their policies are at fault. Otherwise I doubt it will have any impact on the election.

FDD ,I am confused are you looking for an answer to your tittle thread...ie: Good News for Obama or McCain....or the question inbedded in the body of your post...the "Who would be against it"
Or the third option,my personal favorite, are you hoping some poster might be silly enough to decry the bounce back....citing it might hurt his candidate's chances in the general election......you wouldn't be that devious would you FDD?

Yes Bita... me too but the point of this thread is which candidate would a rising markets and falling crude oil over the next three weeks favor?

DomKen -> RE: The Markets Bounce Back Big, Good News for McCain or Obama? (10/13/2008 2:02:23 PM)

This looked like bargain hunting. That is people with cash on hand seeing stocks they wanted at prices they couldn't pass up. Now that the buy orders placed over the weekend have been filled I'd expect more swings with a continued bear market, with occasional days like this, for the next 6 months to a year.

BitaTruble -> RE: The Markets Bounce Back Big, Good News for McCain or Obama? (10/13/2008 2:16:11 PM)

Oh crap. I forgot to answer the subject itself! hehe.. I am easily distracted by bright shiny's so it would seem. [:D]

Okay, at first glance, I would have to say this is going to bode better for the McCain camp (and will be reflected as such in places like Gallup) than the Obama camp until the pundits start to talking to the people (as good little political automatons do) that it was the bailout and the effect of the bailout which caused the upswing and any future stabalization through the elections. Once the talking heads get into the mix, it's probably, actually, a wash. Both camps signed the bailout (er.. rescue) and I, for one, am not about to drink kool-aid here and believe that the package is the cause of the upswing until such is proven by long-term stability.

When I think about it, and perhaps I'm paranoid rather than skeptical (I do read Grisholm so that's to be expected) there something smelling 'round these parts and even though I live in Minnesota, it ain't the fish. An upswing that big calls for massive buying which means people with massive money. After the 40% drop over the last year, who was in a position to do all that mass buying? Certainly not Joe Schmoe down the street who just lost his house when he failed to make his payments after losing his job last year. Someone is now walking around with brand new millions, possibly billions in his pocket. Who is he? Where's he from? Is he a capitalist (which is way cool.. I have no problems with that) .. or is he an anarchist with ulterior motives biding his time? ::looks behind me right quick:: Is it just coincidence that Islamic fundamentalists were told just yesterday to buy, buy and, today, someone does?

Just questions that float through my head as I watch .. and watch.

I think it is absolutely pathetic that we are considering either puppet.

both these men are for more empire.

stef -> RE: The Markets Bounce Back Big, Good News for McCain or Obama? (10/13/2008 2:38:15 PM)

I don't think it's time to start cheering just yet.  Is this a rebound or just a dead cat bounce?

LaTigresse -> RE: The Markets Bounce Back Big, Good News for McCain or Obama? (10/13/2008 2:53:48 PM)

I've heard that bloated dead cats bounce pretty high...........just before they explode with eewy juice and maggots flying all over the place.

I don't have alot of faith in one big bounce. Give me consistancy. At this point I don't think it will change the polls a whole lot.

SilverMark -> RE: The Markets Bounce Back Big, Good News for McCain or Obama? (10/13/2008 2:56:59 PM)

I had no idea you could dribble a cat?????...I knew about sailing rabbits after the correct number of tires had flattened them....but nope, not bouncing cats.
