Status: offline 		Hi, just wondering if everyone else is finding that their local munches are less well attended these days? I would guess with all the economic and election trumoil that many kinksters are just not feeling that into kink or much of any sex play these days. We are members of two good sized local groups and it is amazing how silent they have become. Turn out at the events is down too. So my question to those of you who do local munches and parties.... Is your local group going through a quiet period?

After running groups for more years than I care to count, I can tell you that economy does play a part in participation.  But so do seasons, and I do not understand that part.  I have kept a chart of group participation over the years and for some reason the months starting in Oct, tend to slow down. 
I wish I could figure out why.

Status: offline 		I wouldn't be surprised.  I'm now working 3 jobs, and not wanting to spend the money in gas to go to any munches - so while I can't speak for the masses, I can say that the economy is definitely playng a role in my personal lack of activity in the local scene.

I know that, for us, it is because the academic calender and academic publication (hence lots more research/experiments/papers to write/data to assess/journal articles to edit/textbook chapters to finish) gears up around late September, or early October and then pushes -really- hard straight through to the holidays -- and then everyone is busy with the holidays, then trying to catch up with everything set aside for the holidays, so nothing really picks up again until around February.

Status: offline 		So far I haven't really noticed a decline. A lot of us carpool to the various munches and events so that helps.

Status: offline 		happy to report the  rowdy fun Arizona community is alive and well and very much looking forward to whats left of 08 and the start of 09  with South West leather kicking  off the year .Our slow season seems to be the  Long HOT summer now is cooling off wohoo !

Status: offline 		Quiet?  I don't think so.  I rarely go to munches but I did so this weekend and it was so loud I was wishing for earplugs and I had to yell at the person across from the table from me just to be heard.  It would be my preference if it were a bit quieter:)

Status: offline 		The SF scene has been really slow. There's not much going on, even for Halloween.
There was Folsom, but that's mostly a gay thing. (It probably only has a few more years, too, because Folsom Street is becoming gentrified; more housing, less retail and industrial. There's a plan to make it a transit corridor.)

Status: offline 		Our just had one of its largest Meet & Greets ever since I've been a member -especially in number of new people showing up.  One of the top 5 largest M&G/munch gatherings I've been to here.

Status: offline 		yes, my city does not have much of a BDSM Community.   it have a population of 72,000, but 2nd highest old age population in Canada and a large transient(IE College and Uni students) population..  Fuck Demographys suck

Status: offline 		This is our busiest time of the year from October thru New Years.  We have a huge Halloween party and auction that brings out people who rarely come, as well as new people who want to meet the munch/orientation attendance eligibility requirements before the Halloween party.

And I also think that the upcoming holiday season makes some lonely people long to be around others, so they come out hoping to make that special connection.

Status: offline 		I've seen different results in my local scene.

In general Nashville attendance is down some from last year. The crowd coming to the mark seems to be in excellent spirits and the parties have been great. My all male quarterly party set a new attendance record in September, which is going against the general city wide trend.

I also run a rural munch group and have seen an increase in interest for local community. I speculate that people have been discouraged about driving 85 miles into Nashville. The munch group hosts a road trip weekend to a farm in KY. This spring attendance was so low that I doubt we will have the event again. Since then however munch attendance has been slowly picking up.

Status: offline 		Here in Jersey, it's been a a slight decline from what I'm hearing.  Of course, in the summer months, play would have been really great with staying close and it was.  We had some fantastic getogethers but not at munches but some events and private parties that were held with a collaboration of a few munch groups combining their efforts.  Outside of that the slight decline in attendence later was due to the gas prices going to new heights, so it's been a little rough.  Munches might have declined, but think of the toys and other BDSM goodies that some had to go without during this time....we could have had a little "economic stimulus" in that area I think, "W".... I do believe that the attendance will actually pick up slightly after a month or so with the munches and trips to the clubs, if the drop in oil continues and the mud-slinging stops in November.  We can only see and hope....
