I doubt we'll ever really know the entire true story. Or even half of the true story, the rest will be made up by chimps with type writers. which might be what happened in the first place. In the end, who cares. We'll move on and continue our lives. Just like yesterday.

Cory do yourself a favor,do some research ,come up with the actual numbers of sub-prime loans that are actually in default or have defaulted....and than explain to the rest of us how that relatively small number is responsible for the current world -wide recession.....you guys kill me ,you're a never ending source of entertainment!

I believe the video is genuine ("real"), which is all that is claimed for it. If in fact you know the "whole" story, and know it to be something else, you could have made a useful contribution to the thread.

Instead, you set up a straw man ("contend this is the whole story") in order to imply something derisive ("best if I just keep just what I have decided to myself"). That says a great deal about you, but nothing about the video or me.

As it happens, I am not interested in you, and this thread is not about you.

Back at you Kirata....saying the feeling is mutual is about as far as I will go here....BTW the video is as I said earlier nothing more than a compilation of sound bites that serves one purpose only...spin!...and I believe you know that....As to whether or not the thread is "about me"...who gives a shit ,you posted I responded....i don't see a problem there!

The Real, Real Story
 
I know it's a bit more work to get through all 455 pages of the 'real' real story than a nine minute video but oftentimes we must work for the truth rather than accept things at face value. For what it's worth, I have, personally, worked with the firm of Deloitte & Touche in setting criteria and writing the ISO 9000's to obtain CE marking for medical device products and find them to be exemplery in their practices so place a high value on their work and the work of the regulator in this regard. The 'real' story is there in black and white but it won't be spoon fed to you. You actually have to pick it up and feast on it yourself.
 
I'm rather surprised a Gorean would present less than the whole series to feast upon, Kirata. Truly.

Ignoring your condescension, I only posted a link to a video. It is definitely real, not faked. My comment was, "You decide," presuming that if anyone had a basis for disputing it they would post something documentary. You did, and I thank you very much.

But it remains to be seen whether the full text will dispute the impression given by the short video clip. And you don't say one way or the other in your post. Is that because you don't know? To find out would certainly take "a bit more work" than just snipping a link.

Or are you just not telling (nyah nyah)?

No, but is anybody claiming they were "solely responsible"? Duhh.

By the way, it's not the actual defaults, it's the high percentage of them, and the now (therefore) highly questionable value of the rest. If the government buys them up cheaply enough, we might even make some money! The problem is, nobody really knows how to place a value on them.
 
That, however, is another issue for another thread. The issue here is, who is responsible for the not insignificant pain that the troubles at Fannie and Freddie are contributing to this mess.

I'm sorry that you felt my post was condescending. Such was not intended. I was truly surprised that a Gorean would present a teaspoon of information when a banquet was called for especially given the number of 'what is Gor' threads in which the OP is so often told ... read the books. I don't think I was out of line and stand by my post.

As I have read the actual documentation, yes I do know. Based on my reading, the video is not substantiated in any meaningful way and the sound bites presented are so out of context as to be aggregiously disingenious. In my opinion the video is quite clearly the effort of someone with an agenda to discredit certain members of the hearing panal and uplift other members based on a partician slant. However, I would strongly urge anyone who is truly interested in the truth to read the documentation for themselves and judge it on it's own merit.

While there may be some truth contained in this propaganda piece, it is evident that it has been carefully constructed from sound bites that have no discernable contextual source.

This "documentary" seems to me to be another whine by the right that Barney Frank et alia somehow manipulated a Republican-majority government (all THREE branches) into not regulating the mortgage industry.

When people make claims, I expect them to be supported. No support equals presumtive bullshit. The claims made by the video arise from the actual video footage (forget the overlay crap). Is the overall impression it gives valid? I only know that what I saw was real, not faked. The rest of the question, I hoped, might be decided in this thread, and I very much appreciate your contribution.
 
I would, however, prefer some examples rather than just your word for it and a 455-page manuscript tossed onto the table. If you don't know where in that manuscript the support for your claim lies, and can't produce examples to back it up, then you do the work. I'm not going to try to prove you right or wrong. I'm just going to write off what you say as your (so far) unsupported opinion.
 
You keep mentioning that I'm Gorean. But when Goreans argue points of philosophy, they can present quotes from the books to support their contentions. I see no reason not to expect the same here. If you want to be Gorean, then yes you need to read the books in full. But I don't want to be a Congressman.
 
Candidly, though, giving credit where due, in your case I do take you seriously. I know you well enough from my reading of these boards to have the feeling that there is likely to be merit in what you say, even if I might not wholly agree with your interpretation of the testimony in all respects.
