ORIGINAL: pahunkboy I been putting stray wires into a box. Say I throw out a toaster, I snip the wire. So wires of all types are in a box. Phone wire, cords, electronic wire. If I recycle it do I have to remove the plastic? [for money, (greedy bastard, me, glunk)] I googled to no avail. Burning it all up might be the only way? Any idea how to proceed? Remember my father was a recycler. For copper wire I grew up stripping it with a knife. If you burn it..you ruin it. It's quite easy to strip wire. Get a utility knife..something to cover your knee/leg with. Rest the wire on your leg..one slice and you you have your wire stripped. It may take you a few tries before you get it right. Copper is very valuable. Very thin wire like a phone wire is not worth the effort if you ask me. You need a heavier guage wire. Last I recycled a 33 gallon trash can filled with clean copper I got 2100 for it. Of course that was about 2 years ago. Prices may have dropped some since then. Or gone up for all I know.
