Apparently I have a kitten now. It's two fifteen in the morning here and I was wrapping packages (since my family is having our holiday celebration early). All of a sudden I hear this ungodly mewling from outside the living room door. I open it to find this precious kitten (roughly three months old) crying right outside. She looks exactly like my first cat did at that age. She's an adorable, obviously hungry, grey striped little thing. I gave her a saucer of milk, and now she's following me around like I'm her savior. I'd love to keep her, but here's the catch: She has a collar, and I live in an apartment complex. She could be anyone's. The neighbor's Rott puppy, Drama, always gets out and I take him in for a while. The same way with the other neighbor's tabby cat. (Also, the landlady's Chihuahua gets out every single day... for hours at a time). I love animals dearly. I just wish my neighbors would take better care of their pets. We're not supposed to have pets, but if they go to all that trouble, why not take good care of them? It's freezing outside. The poor dear was shivering mercilessly. So many of them let their animals out and pay no attention whether they come back in or not.
Anyway, I know she's not mine, but she might as well be. If it goes anything like the rest of my neighbors' pets she'll be over here every night. She really is a sweet little thing. I'm going to do what I do with the rest of the animals, I suppose. I'll keep her overnight and let her go home in the morning, when it's warmer. If she comes back several nights in a row I'll figure out who she belongs to and recommend they keep her inside. If they don't keep her in after several little chats and she comes back I'll keep her. I think that's fair.

P.S.- I really wish both sets of the upstairs neighbors would quit throwing their trash in my yard. It's really starting to piss me off. I have to keep a special trashcan on the porch to pick up after them. One time they even threw rotten chicken off their balcony. I've had just about enough of this place. No one picks up after themselves and they all act like they're in junior high. Someone is constantly calling the cops and screaming at the top of their lungs. It's like a fucking episode of Jerry Springer. (Sorry all. Thanks for letting me vent.)

I'm a pretty big animal person. I wouldn't give the jerks several chats. I'd give 'em one... and hope to hell it was some silly unmentionable who opened the door and accidentally let the kitty get out. Otherwise it's just being mean to the poor animal.

I'm glad she stumbled across someone who knows how to properly treat cute and cuddly things. Best of luck.

I kinda like cats...ever notice that about me?

Anyway...I thnk you have a good plan, but if it were me, I would tighten the timeframe for keeping her. I snagged Otis at a friend's apartment complex. He had a collar, but was extremely emaciated...truly starving. I didn't give anyone ANY chances. I started feeding him and took him home with me. After I'd had him for about a month, I had him with me as I was going in to see my friend. Some loser methfreak saw Otis and said "Hey! That looks like my cat." I just stared him down and told him 'No way...this cat is definitely mine." That was 12 years ago. I felt like decking the guy.

Yes, I have noticed DesertRat(and I like and respect a guy who does), just so Ya know I just traveled 400 miles with 3 cats and my dog! They all did really well and all are adjusting quite nicely to their unfamilar surroundings here at MsN's, happy, happy, joy, joy!.

I never take a collar as the sign of an owned cat, person maybe, animal NOT!. A lot of cats are decarded with collars intact.

I always have respect for someone who looks out for the vulnerable of this planet, Kitten.
Hope all goes well.

Oop's.
Sorry NOMC, for some reason I referred to you as Kitten in
my last post, I must have been on the tired side.

You don't really want to feed a cat milk.

If you take it on full time, feed it a steady diet of some good solid kibble of your choosing. Cats *WANT* all kinds of things, but what's best for them is usually the same stuff most days - that and some tasty refreshing water. I occasionally give my two cats some baby food of the chicken, turkey, beef, or veal varieties - those foods are basically an easy on the stomach version of the named item and you will find that vets feed cats some baby food if the animal is in their care. Occasionally means maybe once a week or twice a month. I would give one cat perhaps half a jar of the smallest baby food container at a sitting.

Yep. She belongs to the lady in the building to the left of ours. I talked to her, and she keeps letting her cat out anyway. So I told the landlady. Hopefully she should be talking the owner today. If she doesn't, I'm either going to keep her or find someone who will. Kitty has been back every night this week.
