And she hits the nail on the head. the continued apathy is creating a new aristocracy in the united states. just think about it. Creating a new aristocracy? It seems to me that the same nameless, faceless people have been running the show for decades now. I read a good article in the New Statesman once about this subject and this is the truth about most developed countries, the establishment in all of them bearly changes over centuries, even in the US, despite the belief anyone can make it to the top. We believe we live in democracies but we don't, the democratic process is a safety valve but it changes nothing, it just changes the person who runs the executive on behalf of the establishment. The population doesn't get a choice about changing the socio-economic system and if it tried, the troops would be on the street in 24 hours. Western democracy has nothing to do with democracy and never has, it came about as a way of dispersing social unrest, not as a way of giving the population the power to choose how it lives or its destiny. The establishment makes the big decisions. Yes, but most people don't want to hear this. So it falls on deaf ears for the most part. I guess it's more fun to play the polarization game, for it appeals to the emotions better. These boards are more about entertainment and self-gratification, then they are about discussing real solutions. This is probably the same reason why more people watch TV than read books. Perhaps there's also some truth to the theory that people don't really want to know the truth, for then it becomes an admission that they've been bamboozled all their lives. They fell for the big charade. Couldn't see past the illusions. What a blow to the ego that would be! But naaaaah, I'm just kidding. It's really those damn Republican's fault for all the problems in the US. [;)]
