No? you know, the thing that resulted because the government had to borrow for the war of 1812. never heard of it? want to know why? the government did next to nothing and it fixed itself rapidly. it ended in 1823. president Monroe did next to nothing...as he would do nothing without amending the constitution (what a good president).

The establishment makes the big decisions.

I guess it's more fun to play the polarization game, for it appeals to the emotions better. These boards are more about entertainment and self-gratification, then they are about discussing real solutions. This is probably the same reason why more people watch TV than read books. Perhaps there's also some truth to the theory that people don't really want to know the truth, for then it becomes an admission that they've been bamboozled all their lives. They fell for the big charade. Couldn't see past the illusions. What a blow to the ego that would be! But naaaaah, I'm just kidding. It's really those damn Republican's fault for all the problems in the US. [;)]

on foreclosures, it would be easier to go along with it if the homes were modest starter homes. No one twisted the arm to buy next up houses. when I was a kid 1200 sq ft was ample. Now 2000 sq feet is minimum! <b>I don't know what fixes it. But I do think things are interconnected. The $4 gas, the wars on terror, or cost of extensive military; the downsizing,outsourcing of jobs, and the reach of big business to write the laws to its own advantage, the lack of checks and balances and serious accountability. All add to today. One note here- the other countries that are falling, if they did things better- they would not be falling as well. </b>

I don't know of many americans who were convinced we had a choice in the matter. The pres said do it, gave the usual retoric about doing it for the sanctity of the american people, and the established powers made it happen. If I had a vote in it, I would say screw those financial giants going out for a spa vacation. I think we need to string a few up and let them fly in the wind. They caused the issue, they reaped the benefits, and they were saved in the end. In the meantime the rest of us are just collateral damage. Until we hold the men in power accountable for their actions, we the people will continue to bolster their pocketbooks at our expense. I've got a better one. Let's strip them of all their wealth, and we watch them try to survive on minimum wage. Every few weeks, we send someone in to covertly sabatage their car (if they have one) their appliences, or infect them with the flu, or accidentally push them down the stairs, so that they have to go to an ER, sans health insureance. We broadcast all of this as a reality show. If and when they have a nervous breakdown, THEN we shoot 'em. [;)]

Remember one thing folks...We use 70% of the oil produced but only have about 1/3 of the reserves no matter where you drill. It will take (estimated 7 years) to get the first drop to be usable. So is drilling a viable answer now? Should it be done, probably and sooner rather than later but in the interim we had better start looking at how we drive and what we drive. The whole vicious cycle needs to be slowed down and we are the only ones who can do it. Look at the Metro area of Atlanta, if you live in the city you have a train and busses but, if you live in the suburbs, no access. If I could take a train to my stores I would in a heartbeat but, hell, it isn't even available. Re-building infrastructure and expanding realistic mass transit! In Chicago, you can drive to your local stop, hop on the train and off you go, in New York the subway. Anywhere else we DRIVE CARS....BY OURSELVES! There are so many things we could do this is but one...someone has to build the system(work) someone has to operate the system(work) someone has to sell the tickets(work) jobs, oil, economic stimulus...So many more projects that could do so much for us all! To hell with all the other crap...Americans will work and earn their way if given the chance.
