Hi, softhearted----
I have only read your original post but I would contend that if a person is telling lies, no you can not give consent as you do not have appropriate information from which to base your decisions. Everything that comes after is flawed via the dishonesty.
Trust is a difficult thing somethings and it sounds as if this person violated yours substantially. That sucks. I hope that yo uare doing what you need to to look after yourself (And any others for whom you are responsible) and moving forward.

well, i've nothing against people being held accountable for deception, and while i am familiar with how informed consent applies to medicine (I'm not claiming to be a doctor or anything btw!) but surely, if informed consent applied in a much wider context, then if it applied to sex, then without informed consent it'd be equivalent to date rape? since where informed consent is legally required, its the only form of consent that can be given, if a doctor hasn't fully informed me before i've been operated on regardless of what i've signed, I've not consented to it.
of course i'm entirely speculating here, i know little enough of british law, let alone US.

Informed consent requires... Full Disclosure on the part of everyone.

However...There must be Due Diligence on the part of everyone to ensure that there is indeed Full Disclosure.

It seems you failed on your Due Diligence...

So.. really the question comes back to you... what did you need to do in the given situation you had that would of given you full disclosure of the facts as there were and not what you where lead to believe.?

with that answer... you can look at appling it to future situations in your effort of Due Diligence
