I don't have a landline. Don't want one (makes it harder for those damned telemarketers etc to find me...).  I don't have a problem being reachable by my friends and family. They know they can call any time, and I'll do what I can to help them out.  They also know that (usually) I turn the ringer off before I sleep.

National Do Not Call List for cell phones. 888-382-1222  It takes less then 3 minutes & blocks telemarketers from calling.

And you must be smoking crack if you think that stops them too.
We have been on it since the start and we still get calls, so I would not bet my life on it if I was you.

I love my cell phone. I don't talk on it a whole lot. I'm not one of those people who wander through the grocery store gabbing away, but it really does come in handy. My son is learning his way around the big city and calls me often for directions-I do a pretty good impression of a GPS navigation device. If either of my kids has car trouble I want them to be able to get a hold of me and the same for me if I get stranded. It's so much safer to call family or friends than to trust a stranger for a ride or help.  Oh and last but not least, it's a great way to keep track of my Mom when we go out to the Fair or something. She has this tendency to wander off and get lost and then get mad at the rest of us for "losing her".

....and every now and then I just like to talk to people. Go figger....

My cell phone company provides roadside assistance for an extra $7 a month. It covers any vehicle I happen to be in with My phone. Basically they tow, jump, bring gas or change tires. I've used it twiice - pretty handy.

AAA is a lot cheaper and provides the same services, plus you can get discounts at restaurants, hotels, tourist attractions, and movie theatres.

$7/mo. x 12 mos. = $84

AAA basic membership = $42; expanded services are a bit higher, but not double their basic rate.

Just sayin'. :)

OK, since the consensus is that we can't live without cellphones it is official.

I am dead.

I adore my cellphone.  It is part of my very being.  It has gotten me out of some serious jams, including a flat tire on the interstate in Indiana, getting stuck in a ditch, being lost in a strange town, "OMG there is smoke and FIRE coming out of the hood!  Help!"  I dropped it last night, broke the hinge.  It won't stay open now.  (razr phone)  I am sad, so sad.    But not everyone shares my passion for technology, and that is okay.  Give me reason to playfully poke at them when we are at the bar.

I have never had a cell phone yet, I might get one, one day. They get on my nerves watching people at work play with them like they are adult toys. I have a few goofs that have to show me their video text messages of some stooge beating on his meat or a talking vagina. I tell them I have seen them already, so I dont have to watch them scroll through 5 minutes of goofy text video messages.

No you aren't, but the time you need a cell phone may come... but you would rather die than own one... so what's the problem?

Not really sure julia. They talk of everything being freedom, bank cards and all that. It is anything but.

In my view, when I am not home I am unavailable. Too bad. If that means others are unavailable to me, so be it. If I have to walk home in a blizzard should the car break down ? Depends.

Perhaps one day my resolve will be tested, just like my resolve in not going to doctors. We'll see.

Right now my cell is buried in my purse in the other room. I am not focused on it. If it rang I would not jump to answer it. I am not expecting an important phone call. It is not a leash. I can choose who to talk to and whom not to. I do not have to answer the damn thing, I own it, I paid for it, and I feel no obligation to be controlled by it. If someone I do not want to talk to calls I do not have to answer. I turn it off when I am in a place I do not wish to be disturbed by it.

I used to play bejeweled and tetris on mine, when I had an LG model with a decent sized screen.  Was great while sitting around waiting for things like Dr appt.s etc.  My current phones screen is too small to play games on it.
