Is anyone else watching?

What did you think of the "Sookie is Mine" comment?

warm regards,

It kept her safe from Eric, for the time being anyway, but I think it's pretty obvious who owns who in that pairing.

I haven't read the books yet - but from what I can gather - Sookie and Bill have a relationship and then she moves on to bigger more important undead.

I haven't read them either so it'll be interesting to see where things go.

WOO HOOO!! Now -here's- a topic I can sink my teeth into!!!

Yes, I'm watching. Avidly. The books were a -hoot- (yes, I've read all of them at least twice, up through From Dead to Worse) and I'm so glad to discover that HBO has turned them into a series. These are my "chocolate"...purely entertainment-value reading... nothing really profound, just really good characters and an interesting, quick-moving, funny, and intense story-line.

I am also happy to hear that Laurel K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake" series of books is in discussion for both a book and a tv series (I got this from LKH's site, so this isn't just another one of those speculative rumors).

As far as the "Sookie is MINE" issue... in the books they make it pretty clear that a 'blood doll' is open game until xhe's been claimed by a vampire. Sookie, as a 'virgin' to vampire bites, is prime 'meat' -- him claiming her was pretty much for her protection -- although Bill is, as much as a vampire can be, thoroughly infatuated with Sookie (can't call it 'love' -- Bill is just a bit too old, jaded, and has too many hang-ups to 'love' anyone... including himself.)

LOVElovelove the series, and love that HBO is staying so close to the books.

I watched an episode and wasn't impressed.

I'll stick to Mad Men.

V-30... It looks like you and I are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. [sm=abducted.gif]

I absolutely hated the two episodes of Mad Men that I watched. *chuckles* My neighbor said it would get better -- but to me, it didn't.

Sookie Stackhouse is -definitely- an acquired taste. It isn't even remotely intellectual, and is -seriously- melodrama-esque... but that's part of why I like it. *grins*

I've been watching it, because I really like Alan Ball's Six Feet Under.  But so far, I am not that impressed.  A lot of it is really corny; especially the vampire characters.  Of course, I've never been a big fan of vampire fiction.

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: HBO's True Blood (10/3/2008 12:39:51 PM)

Yeah, the books are very corny, too -- but that's sort of the point. The Sookie Stackhouse books are really sort of a counterpoint to all the "amazing mortal woman falls in love with vampire and goes on to save the world" books. Sookie is a telepath, but she's also a ditz... which is some of what makes this such an unusual series. The series kind of puts me in mind of the old silent-film melodramas... and folks who don't like those, and the really -overworked-, hammy acting,  (or who don't like soap operas) probably won't enjoy True Blood much.

It reminds me of how HBO passed on MAD MEN.

Usako -> RE: HBO's True Blood (10/3/2008 11:33:28 PM)

I love the show. I find vampires very, very sexy and the show, so far, has done a good job in the sexy department. It's also funny as hell, the way the small town country folk react to the vampires yet have such sorrid lives themselves; classic.

Racquelle -> RE: HBO's True Blood (10/3/2008 11:35:25 PM)

I have found this show hilarious.  Those fake-o southern accents.  They are not Vampires.  They are Vampars.  Ok, I only saw one episode since I don't bother with HBO at home.  I just couldn't stop laughing.

cravesdom -> RE: HBO's True Blood (10/4/2008 1:32:47 AM)

I have to admit I am addicted already. I love this show. It is funny and entertaining. And I think Bill did just what he should have done to protect Sookie from the other vamps.

Timshel -> RE: HBO's True Blood (10/4/2008 2:03:04 AM)

I want to see this show, but alas no HBO for me..  Not so much for the vampire thing, but I'm a big fan of Anna Paquin...

Eh, shouldnt' be too long before ya can get it on DVD...the way things are these days.

BossyShoeBitch -> RE: HBO's True Blood (10/4/2008 2:10:40 AM)

LOVE the show.. I haven't read the books though. Funny, when they were in the "Vampar Bar" I was looking at the clothes and going, "I've got that and that and that..." lol
