s661055 -> The use of fake profile pictures (10/2/2008 4:02:05 AM)

I have over the time reported several uses of people using pictures for their profile which does not represent the actual person, but instead is stolen of some other website, often from a known pornographic site..
From those i have reported, after looking around the site for the prober way to report these (which does not exist), the message i have gotten back was that the picture had now been deleted..
I don't really find this punishment sufficient, since all it would take for the user, is to upload a similar fake photo once more and the persons which might be in contact with this fake personality would probably never figure it out. Instead i was hoping for some more severe punishments, the smallest being a deletion of the account and not just the picture and in more severe cases (perhaps at continuous misuse) a ban of the ip-adress, so these fakes could be dealt with..
The fact that the only punishment i have been aware of is the deletion of the picture has also made me not go the long distance with every fake profile i have found, since finding a matching picture from one of the persona's website and hereafter finding a way to get in touch with an admin or moderator, for me, does not pay off..

What are your experience on this area? Have you recognised pictures on here and reported them or ignored them, and what do you think the appropriate punishment should be?

No. I hardly ever look at profiles. Porn sites bore me. So I would not know whether a pic was stolen or not.

None. If they are not genuine in one thing, then they will also not be genuine in other things and betray themselves eventually. Simply ask them to remove the stolen pics.

I think it would become too time consuming. Am not familiar enough with porn sites to recognise anyone. Am always a bit sus about uberbabes anyway.

There really isn't much anyone can do. Even if you delete the profile there is nothing to stop the person from creating a new profile with another fake picture.

You could of course block IP on the user but that would be imho extreme and not worth the trouble for something like this.

there's some on here that use other people's pictures to boost their own profile also. but it's not easy for the MODs to catch them sometimes.

Yes, my picture was taken from the website of a supermodel agency - whats the problem?

I wouldn't expect the MODs to catch them all.. I know it's a big job just sorting the pictures as they are now.. My wishes are instead that it would be easier to report fake profiles and to see some more be done to those caught than just deleting the picture and letting them go on..

there's a Mistress in Alabama that got Her pic swiped by someone and She even had the other perosn's name written in Her journal, i checked it out and, after comparing the pics, notified the MODs...i don't think they sis anything yet either

Unless you use these venues as an avenue to make relationships, have real meetings, etc, profiles don't really matter.  As has been said here, profiles can be changed, eliminated, some people have several profiles with different genders..hey..it's the internet..ANYTHING goes!  That's the beauty and the beast of the net.

I like to spar with people here and discuss different points of view..but in terms of meeting with someone than there is a different process of "certification" PRIOR to any meeting...Cam/Cam conversation with clothes on, telephone numbers than maybe swapped...meet in public places...and all those other things that people should do for their own protection.  And I have met some wonderful people and groups via CM and other venues.

What makes you think they aren't punished in some other way?  Just because you are not informed of it does not mean it doesn't happen.  I'm a moderator on another, non-kink site.  I get outraged emails all the time wanting to know why someone wasn't punished for something (usually a personal attack).  The answer is, "we do not discuss nor reveal the actions we take against our members".

SassyBird -> RE: The use of fake profile pictures (10/2/2008 5:54:45 AM)

I actually stumbled across a profile with a picture of Johnny Depp in it. *grin*
Now, for the untrained eye it would have looked like a normal bloke.. But me being such a Depp addict I spotted him right away and reported the profile.

But seriously.. You cant get too upset with people trying to pass their time and working on their virtual acting skills. Spend your effort on something more pleasant!
If bad comes to worse, just shut down the computer for the night and try with fresh eyes in the morning.

Maybe they are more lenient on the porn picture takers? Awhile back I had a couple of Doms from up in the Northeast email me saying another was using my pics. I did that photo verification thing with CM and  they deleted the profile within maybe an hour after I submitted it to them.

DomMeinCT -> RE: The use of fake profile pictures (10/2/2008 6:04:56 AM)

I don't really find this punishment sufficient

Then get ready to spank the entire internet.  [:D]

But really, a fake photograph is only another medium, like false words in a profile, and impossible to police.

oops that was another one...she's right.

LadyAngel1 -> RE: The use of fake profile pictures (10/2/2008 6:54:20 AM)

In general, it's too bad that many people here in some way portay a persona that does not reflect who they really  are.   While using a photo of another person is a violation to the photo theft victim, to the average reader of a profile here, the fake photo seems no worse than incorrect information within the profile.  Incorrect age, height, bdsm experience, marrital status, etc. are lies as well and they cannot easily be reported.  I don't think that CM members need to go out of their way to be profile police.  As with any internet forum, most of us are aware that there are liars, and we should all be aware that any photo we post on the internet can be used by any stranger for any reason.  Post at your own risk.

As far as punishment, mods don't have the time to check every photo and mess with ISPs.  If it is proven to them that a violation has occurred, I think removing the photo satisfactory corrects the violation.
