Dan Quayle was run out of Washington for using the British spelling of potato;

Quickly: in Britain like in America, "potato" is spelt "potato". "Potatoe" is wrong across the pond as well; it is considered a misspelling. The plural remains "potatoes". So Dan Quayle got run out of Washington for fucking up both in English, and in English.

Your ever friendly spell checker.

....to be fair there is a seperate British and US pronounciation of the word. Perhaps that's where Merc got mixed up. You say potato..........

Thanks for begin a consistent source of relevance to the important aspects of any debate.

BTW - Which dictionary world is "spelt" a word? Perhaps that same parellel universe where the US has 57 States?

Ahhh! Silly me I should have remembered that reference since my goal is to eliminate as much 'chaff' from my life as possible!

I guess in this usage there was confusion about what vegetable was critical to the discussion; "in Britain like in America, "potato" is spelt "potato"'.

If only there was a 'spelt' to be elected this year instead of 100% chaff.

...arguably, in most political discussions, the generic vegetable is most pertinent.....lol

On a more serious note, my house rep is up for re-election in 2 years...I am plan on running, even just to expose how crooked he is.

I need a new retirement package. Which office do I have to be elected to, to get that?[:D]

You're welcome, Merc. I'm starting to wonder if you don't stuff your posts with these quirky little mistakes just so that I can come and correct them [8D] .

Keeping with the spirit of the metaphor; I can think of no person better suited or qualified to provide the chaff. Without the comparison, the spelt would be less obvious.[;)]

Don't hesitate to call me next time you have any doubt as to how a word is spelt. Proofreading is my hobby [:)] . To one like me, the content, or waffle, is irrelevant. It's the form that matters.

spelt is (stupid pathetic educated learned thing)

It's wise to keep it a hobby considering your usage of 'spelt' and your inability to provide anything meaningful, or related to the substance of the material.

I thought you read philo's link. It looks as though you didn't go past the first meaning of the word 'spelt'. Here it is below, for your edification:

Main Entry:
spelt 2
Pronunciation:
\ˈspelt\
chiefly British past and past participle of spell

I thought you'd appreciate seeing a true 'British spelling'. If only Dan Quayle had had that excuse.. oh well, at least, his failure wasn't rewarded :-) .
