I've been a big proponent of taking cold showers for health reasons, and they're especially good for me as a hardcore weight trainer. However I've very seldom run into other people that take cold showers, much less even know the health benefits of them.

So I'm wondering if anyone here takes them, and why?

For the most part I take them because they can increase your body's output of testosterone (in women, it increases estrogen), so it's like free, safe steroid shots! =)

Used to love them when I was younger: what better way to wake up in the morning? Plus, they make the hair shiny.

But since I moved to the cold climate of New England, strangely... I've gone off them  .

I don't take them, and I never will.  I am skeptical of the supposed health benefits.  Nope, I like my showers hot and steamy.

Funny...When I used to vacation here in Florida, I used to take cold showers all the time. I did it to bring down My body temperature so I wouldn't get all sweaty using a blow-dryer. (1980's...big hair...you get the idea.)
Now that I've lived here for many years, My body has acclimated. I don't do it anymore. Cool shower...hmmm, sometimes. Cold...no.
BTW...kittin is right about the cold shower/shiny hair thing.

Something about closing the hair cuticles to make for a smoother surface.

i rinse my hair in cold water, and god forbid the air is broke, then i am all for them. i lean towards cool to luke warm most days, especially after being out in the yard. but i still adore a steaming hot bath right before bed. guess i wash alot.

Hmmm

I take colder showers than anyone I know... does that count?

My ex used to HATE it. He'd want to shower with me and let me set the temperature, and couldn't stand it, it would set his teeth to chattering.

But it's not, like, very cold water. It's just cold enough that there won't be any steam, since that wreaks havok with my asthma and makes it reeeeeeally hard to breathe when that's all there is in the bathroom, and warm enough that my hair still feels soft afterward.

Using semi-permanant hair dye used to force me to take colder showers... now I'm just used to it, and quite enjoy them (though that isn't to say that I don't enjoy the occasional, SHORT, hot shower.

I used to take them all the time...not on purpose though..it seemed every time I got in the shower the wife...X WIFE I should say...would turn on the hot water in the sink or put a load in the washing machine....Funny this was usually accompanied with a faint giggle...hmmm I wonder.

I live in steamy south-central Texas, so I love cold showers, or at least -cool- showers (the water never gets truly cold here during the summer).

The man takes them regularly.  He started last year when he was going through chemo.  He did a combo of very hot, then ice cold.  I think the thought behind it was to stimulate blood flow.  He likes them.  I, on the other hand, take super hot showers.

I prefer a moderate temperature in the shower or bath.  Too cold makes my muscles ache and too hot turns your skin all pink.  Adjust for seasonal temperature and humidity variations accordingly.  And I adore a long, soothing bath in seasame oil.

It does, that is one of the main benefits of cold showers. Helping to cleanse the body of toxins is another top favorite.

I must have very hot water for pain control, but rather than a long shower of hot water like I used to take, I will take the benefits and then turn the hot down.  I will get the water to the coolest that I can before I get out because it does seem to crank up the ol engine, closes pores and I have been told it is a good thing to do.  But too cold and I am hurting and my teeth are rattling and up goes the heat again.  So I try to blend the two for different reasons and I quite enjoy the blended over one or the other.

Do some of ya'all jump in frozen winter waters around New Years?  Like the Polar Bear Club or something?  Or jump from a steaming hot-tub into the snow? brrrrrr......
