Status: offline 		No one wanted to change anything during the Bush years because it appeared that it was all working so beautifully. The economy was absolutely booming. Why would anyone want to change that?

Obama took huge contributions from the criminals who caused this mess, while BUSH was the one who tried to get legislation passed that could have prevented it.

Democrats resisting him was the only reason it didn't go through!

Oh yeah, vote Obama, he'll lead the way  

Straight to this country's ruin... while lining his pockets with more bribes.

NO SHIT, thank the 2004 Bush voters.

I also seem to remember that McCain's campaign manager actually worked for the criminals who caused this mess.

I was comfortable during the Clinton administration.  I cannot stand to look at him either.
Do like I am.   I told off Senator Lyndsey Graham last night.  Write your congress and senate.
Purchase a tent and supplies because we are headed towards bad times.

That is just like those wonderful professors at Duke when they get into politics.  They just love to bash Bush, almost as much as they loved to bash those innocent kids on the lacross team.  He probably is right about the number of banks failing...maybe even low.  However, like most professors, they see everything through a liberal lens.  American legislative history began eight years ago and George Bush destroyed the country they call home.  If they truly wanted to educate college kids politically instead of indoctrinate gullible children into the liberal world, they would discuss the 1990's when the pressure was put on banks and other lending institutions to make sub-prime loans to people that could not afford homes, when Cuomo as head of Housing ,under pressure from Charlie Rangel and others, relaxed the regulations that controlled the quality of the portfolio of mortgages allowed by FannieMae and FreddieMac;  they might even go back to the 1960's when Lyndon Johnson privatized FannieMae and FreddieMac to take their liabilies off the government balance sheet so he could finance "War on Poverty", his "Great Society".  Some great society he left us...the democrats lost that war too.  Quite a legacy for the party whose mascot is a a jackass!
Yes, Bush did a lot of things wrong....but the ROOT CAUSES of todays disaster situation go back long and deep!
If you really are interested in finding TRUTH...do some quality research and learn about the subject you want to write on before you do an essay in life.  Otherwise, get a job with the main stream media where your only qualification required is to come up with 3-second sound bites, and truth is never the issue.

I believe sen. Lindsey "they're all a bunch of whiners" Gramm was actually one of the main people who helped to deregulate the lending industry. Remember, this is, according to him, just a "mental recession." These comments were what I consider to be the "let them eat cake" moment of the McCain campaign. And we all know what happened after that....  Actually, it's not a bad idea! If we have a continued fall in the wealth of America, perhaps there will be those ready to invite Madame Guillotine to a party in Washington.

Status: offline 		Or, be glad that you saved a big fat chunk of money for a down payment, got a 30 year loan that was less than a third of what you were approved for and, have been making double payments on.......for land that you can raise food to eat with a house that is relatively inexpensive to heat and cool. And, have been working hard to pay down all of your debt for the last 5 years because you had a gut feeling it was going to be important. Own two reliable vehicles outright and are 1/2 way through paying on one less than a year old.

I like nice things as much as the next person but........I also accept my limitations and reality. I know many others that will really be hurting when their credit card interest starts shooting up, they cannot refinance their ARM mortgages and perhaps one of money making household members gets laid off.

Not to mention the people that were ogling a nice retirement in a few years that just lost big money.

Status: offline 		I like the fact that it is only Bush at fault.  Clinton started the ball rolling, Bush watched it roll around, and congress balanced it on their noses like trained seals.  Believe it or not, there is enough blame to go around to all those responsible.  Its time people in this country stop looking through the democrat/republican partisan tunnel vision.

FFS you people may never get it. Both sides sit around blaming the other and at times like this it almost appears neither side have a competent bone in their bodies. While they rant and carry on like spoiled fifth graders the rest of us that apparently haven’t exceeded third grade take up sides with kids that should all be put in detention.

I was in a discussion just the other day with a fellow and we decided that it was almost possible to coincide the Democrats with the slave’s morality and the Republicans with the master’s morality, but I came to the conclusion that there wasn’t enough separation in either to allow either the title of a master, of anything.

But I digress; let’s evaluate your most or should I say least impressive comment in this post cloudboy.

Now I’m sure as hell not a Bush apologist but you have to get in touch with reality. Weigh the measured moments in time. First Bush extended policies after 9/11 that were intended to help the economy so that we the sheeple, I mean people could come out from under our rock and start functioning normally again. While he had good intent, it was the first phase of big brother becoming to fucking involved. However he didn’t do a damn thing that a Dem wouldn’t have done, at least from another angle.

You see the more that big brother does the more his sheeple expect from him, sometimes not even to their knowledge. We have to learn to take care of ourselves folks. Stop waiting for buyouts and bailouts. Stop waiting for others to wipe our own shitty asses. Hell if we really want a dictator or king let’s ratify a new constitution. A new law of the land. The founding fathers had the plan that men were better suited to take care of themselves at the lowest levels, not that e should all be owned by the big shot in Washington. But back in those days men had the morality of masters, it seems that times have changed.

Now Bush’s “programs” were meant to spur public confidence and economic growth. While certain programs were in the short term successful. As is always the case corruption and greed ensued. And not on the Governments part, hell the government has always been corrupt, but it’s our (we the sheeple) duty to maintain accountability of the Government.

But this wasn’t the root of the problem, what truly became the problem were the corporate and financial thieves. Banking execs, Realtor types and just down right “make a quick buck and fuck the rest of the world” assholes that again “we the sheeple” should have seen within our very midst. Just because we have buried our heads in the sand and want to point a finger at the easiest target doesn’t mean that target is to blame.  

The entire country has become an, us against them gangland and its fuckin’ ridiculous. I challenge you to find twenty Congressmen and five Senators that haven’t fallen victim to or succumb to the demons of corruption, excess greed or just plain apathy. I’m not sure that as a nation we are worthy of the men that have gave so much to support such incompetence, greed, foolhardy and carelessness.

It’s not about Bush or Clinton or any other self delusional figurehead that is lead by the concept of power and greed ahead of nobility and community.

It is my opinion that neither of these parties are worth leading us. And yet it is become increasingly apparent that while we have altered the nature of men enough to ensure the progress of the slave’s morality it is only a matter of time before the concept of self governing Democracy evolve as did the doe doe.

Bush didn’t do this alone; every elected official and their constituents must face the truth and share in the blame. That means all of us in case you missed that point.

Come on people this partisan rhetoric has become useless, destructive and really makes us all look foolish and inept.

It isn't Dem v Rep. They are essentially the same party. And they are in the hip pocket of big business, which is in the hip pocket of the money trust. The MSM (mainstream media) is also in the hip pocket of the money trust and that relationship has been very effective at reporting only what they want us to know.

"They" want us to be fighting amongst ourselves over divisive issues like Dem v Rep, gun control or not, abortion, Lib v Con, etc. It keeps our focus off of and away from, as I see it, the larger more controlling issues, e.g., money and who and how it is controlled.

The current financial situation will likely be dealt with through some sort of rather large bailout. It really won't be anything like what our elected officials tell us it will be. It will be much worse and much more expensive than that (when was the last time gubmint brought anything in under budget?) The people, you and me, will pick up the tab and we'll all be paying for it for a long, long time. And guess what. The money trust will survive. They will probably even thrive. Thriving isn't so hard to do when all you have to do is turn on the presses (or enter some key strokes) and make money.

For the record it is importnant to be aware of the distinction between making money and earning money. They make it with keystrokes and presses, in almost any amount almost any time they want (to print any denomination bill costs only about 3 cents). You and I earn it by giving our time and labor for many hours, days and weeks every year.

Have there been any substantial changes in who it is that controlls the creation of so called money, and the issuance of credit, in the past hundred years? Yet more than one party has been in control of the house, the senate and the whitehouse.

Status: offline 		Perhaps if the President took his responsibilities and showed some integrity by owning up to his dramatic errors in judgement, there wouldn't be such a widespread desire to point the finger at him. But as he chooses to pretend he is somehow disconnected from his own decisions... there's no need to beat around the Bush by trying to apportion blame. Not only is he guilty of taking terrible executive decisions... his cowardice makes him the perfect scapegoat.

Bill Clinton....as long as they have that D after their name I am sure it is their fault....  Deregulation had nothing to do with it? There were no Republicans in Freddie or Fannie? and the last 8 years...well, they were just wonderful.... Georgie Boy had his head buried in the sand and was too busy justifying "his" war to pay attention to the economy aside from repeating that the markets were strong....the economy is good...he never saw it coming....never dealt with what his own cabinet officers saw and knew....but, I know....it's all of us left wing Democrats we caused it....There is more than enough blame to go around but, who's watch did it take place under? There are many causes but your answer is no better than the one which caused your reply.

Hopefully this will start a trend to let the individuals who generated their personal failure by bad decisions also fail.

Maybe, just maybe, everyone paying their mortgages, taxes, and running their companies financially sound will get some kind of government 'prize' grant as a reward for their success. Perhaps it will start a trend where successful people are held as an example of what to do and reward it; instead of a source of tax money to fund the losers, entitlement seekers, and failures.

Yes - Its a GREAT day to be alive. Can't wait to get to the office and buy some more bargains. How silly this self fulfilling prophecy has become. I'm glad the government won't be getting the benefit of selling these assets down the line and making a profit - they'll just continue to fund losers with it anyway. Now - it's out there for all of us to benefit. As some people who know banking realize; this is mostly a regulatory accounting issue. A $250,000 loan on a property in a depressed market selling for $275,000 isn't a 'bad loan' if no payment has been made in 180 days; but regulations require it be listed as such and taken away from the institutions borrowing base. That's why you can buy it from the back for $200k. Just because collectively its Billions instead of thousands - it works the same way. This is a zero sum game folks - money is being made as quickly as its being lost in an equal amount. Watch the stock market today - it will recapture much of yesterday's losses.

Market tip - Condo's are going for 25% of last years value, spurred on by the foreclosures and the HOA not having enough paying members and going into default. Of course if you're living in a condo, you can expect to see a huge increase in your fees as the defaulting member contributions evaporate. Fantastic sales prices for great locations. Individually a good investment or cheap housing. Collectively a great annuity source if you can pick up a bunch. I'm putting together a group to buy out some of the failing HOA's and do a reconvert process from Condo to Rentals. All those unqualified homeowners will be back in the rental market and owning a condo cluster in a prime location and renting them out can pay big time. Should the status quo continue - rents pay the freight. When the tide turns, and capital gain tax reduced to spur investment, converting back to condo and selling will bring a windfall.

Edited to add:

PS - The other reason to smile is that trying target successful businesses and/or individuals by increasing their taxes won't happen. Unless there is a goal of socialism in the platform of either candidate there is need of economic stimulus, not stagnation by taxation. You want me, or any business to hire some of these 'down-sized' bankers; you better not tax my profits which give me the ability to hire anyone.

PPS - Wachovia's death is also reason to celebrate. A bank that had such a bad reputation when they were First Union, that they bought a little regional bank in PA (Wachovia) just to be able to change their name to try and fool people. 'FU' was always the 'Fuck You!' bank in the industry. Good to see that philosophy come home to roost. The fact that it's CITI is ironic. The only reason they weren't so heavily in the sub-prime RE market was that they lost $400 Million back in the early 90's due to being on the 'cutting edge' of the 'no doc' stupid lending philosophy.

Even if you aren't a sadist - Its good to see bad things happen to bad people.

Status: offline 		Sorry, but if a representative voted against the bill for the sole reason that mean ol' Nancy Pelosi got up and gave a speech that hurt their widdle feelings....  Then they have no business sitting in that chamber. The country's economic health is on the line, and republicans voted against the bill because the speaker of the house said that this situation was entirely due to the shitty policies of the Bush administration?

Well, fuckin' DUH!!!
Grow a pair, GOP.

More likely, they saw that the bill wasn't going to pass, and pulled their support, figuring that, since they were up for re-election, the safe thing to do would be to vote "no." Then they could run out to the cameras waiting outside, and claim that they were "bravely standing up for the little guy." (Which is EXACTLY what happened.)

This pointing-the-finger polarization is exactly what the powers-that-be are hoping and expecting the sheeple to continue. They are leading us by our emotions, and taking our eyes off the ball.

For all those caught up in all of this illusory nonsense, I respectfully suggest that you take a few steps back and focus on the bigger picture.

This left vs. right finger pointing will get us nowhere. Fast.
