Top conservative columnist George Will has some strong thoughts on McCain.

(This may have been posted before but I searched and nothing came up.)

More cracks in the Republican ranks...

Yeah, McCain's behavior these last few days have chipped away at his support. The fact that he reacted in a "hothead" manner, calling for firing the SEC chairman (which the President has no power to actually do... darn those framers!) and generally looking for scapegoats, and blaming the "new kids on the block" for the economic collapse eight years in the making... None of that has helped him.

In contrast, Obama's response was careful, measured, thoughtful... and looked hella Presidential.

Oh, BTW... early voting in 11 states (started today) shows Obama ahead by a slight margin... even in states thought to be Republican strongholds.

Will's concluding paragraph is quite thought-provoking.

quote:

It is arguable that, because of his inexperience, Obama is not ready for the presidency. It is arguable that McCain, because of his boiling moralism and bottomless reservoir of certitudes, is not suited to the presidency. Unreadiness can be corrected, although perhaps at great cost, by experience. Can a dismaying temperament be fixed?

Dunno, they say that you *do not* want to get Obama angry.

Indeed.  I suppose it can and will be argued both ways.
My thought is that Obama is an intelligent man and will surround himself with experienced people.
"Dismaying temperament?"   Not something I'd want to see in my president.

McCain was a creation of the democrats and their cohorts in the liberal media. When he gets elected they only have themselves to blame.

What a wonderful article gina!
You are a great citizen!
George Will is normally on point, and McCain is just catching hell.

Just 3 weeks ago, he was saying the economy was in great shape!
He is against regulation, no he is for regulation, no the economy is in great

shape, no we are on the brink of collapsing, where the hell am I, it's all smoke
and mirrors, pay no attention to the men behind the curtain, where is the 700 billion?

McCain is running around in circles, his world is falling apart,
best he doesn't talk at all.

In McCain's 60 MIN interview, he looked old and infirm to me.

popeye, you are very, very bad man!
No soup for you.

The last thing we need now is a wimpy President.
With a name like Popeye, don't you want a strong President?

And Obama looked confused.
He's a lawyer, he doesn't know anything about economics.

Yea, that's why McCain is continually pandering to the right. McCain AND the repubs are blowing it and just may lose to the first black man to be elected POUS. Wall street will tell us if he is satisfactory.

Thank you for posting the link, gina.  I have serious misgivings about Senator McCain's temperment in a time of crisis.

And that's why both of them, for the bankers...are perfect patsies. I read every word that Will writes in the Post, and he is the most eloquent conservative and capitalist propagandist there is...and a pompous ass.

Yes. Wall Street, (wrapped in bloody bandages, lying in a hospital bed, with a $700 billion dollar IV drip snaking its way into its crushed, battered body) will tell us how well our choice of President will be. Because it sure as hell is telling us now how great the nation's hoodwinked choice of Bush was!

If anybody knew who Obama was we might have some sort of a clue as to what his temperament is, but we don't.

Nobody knows the guy except who? His wife and his pastor of twenty years?

And he's thrown his pastor under the bus!

See, there's that desperation again - why do you have to bring Obama into everything like that? I'm getting worried about you  .

Mind telling me what you mean by the bold comments? Do you mean the framers of the Consititution? If so, how does that play into any of this?

Maybe people would be more comfortable about McCain if he lacked passion
