Music, as much as I appreciate any thread that does not go into politics, this seems to have evoked responses that, shall we say, I doubt you expected. This is CM, so you knew what was going to happen. I pity you not. Staying off of politics (which seems to be the point I think) I wonder about your handle - music mystery I wonder no more as I just had a look at your profile. I was going to say that you look like a good guitar player, but that was before I found out. The bassoon eh ? Know what, before I die I would like to just try to play as many different instruments as possible. Not sure just where to do that. So many music stores I've been to are so concentrated on guitars, amps and keyboards that it would be hard to find one with a bassoon, an alto sax, a tuba (which I started learning to play in highschool). I can understand that if I want to try out a woodwind I might be required to buy a reed and that is no problem. In fact if I get interested in it I'll buy the whole thing probably. I see lots and lots of guitars and all that, but very few of those "other" instruments. The ones in an orchestra. Recently I saw an ad for a violin, brand new for eighty bucks. It is supposed to be full size, street legal so to speak and of course comes with the bow. I think I'll be ordering that soon. Though still in the realm of strings, I have not played fretless before except for a steel guitar. I don't know if that is the exact term for it, but it lays down and you get this weight with which to play it, and the other hand can pick or strum. I've never seen one that was not electric. It did have a fretboard printed, but no frets and the strings would never touch them, it is just a reference. Playing fretless without such a visual reference would be a challenge for me, thus, perhaps I'll order that violin today. I don't care if it is a total piece of junk, all I care is that it works. HA, you still want to stay out of politics ? I don't get why everybody has to have a Stratocaster, a BC Rich, a LesPaul, in guitars. I have a Washburn, which is the cheapest of the cheap, and it plays almost as well as my Ibanez. I have auditioned plenty of electric pianos, ranging up to seven grand in price, but I wound up with a Privia. It has everything I need, especially the fact that it works. Weighted keys and touch responsive, and the full eighty eight. Five C notes and it is mine. I am not Liberache(sp) nor am I Joe Satriani. Perhaps people like that deserve and maybe even need to have esoteric equipment, but I don't. My Washburn has absolutely perfect intonation as far as I can tell, and I can tell. I fully know how to setup a guitar for the best action and intonation. When you have the adjustable bridge that cures all ills, even with a mismatched set of strings. What if you don't have the adjustable bridge ? HA HA HA, know what you do ? You adjust it by selecting the string guages, sometimes even individually. I'll bet nobody knew I know that. But that is how it is done. Yup, the old cheapo Washburn plays just fine. A buddy of mine, years ago he pissed me off because he wouldn't quiet down at about 3 AM, actually bothering my neighbors. I actually got tired of hearing it and threw him out. He was drunk as all hell and wound up leaving some blood here actually. I regret losing touch with him. He had this piano that had something that needed to be welded, and it was repaired, but he didn't have the money to have it retuned just yet. I had this little keyboard, and those things are surprisingly accurate when it comes to tuning. I wanted to go tune his piano. Figure out what wrenches or whatever I need and have at it. I am fully aware that of the three strings associated with each note of the piano, only one is tuned perfectly, the others are tuned a Hertz or two off, in opposite directions. His place would have been perfect unless he got drunk, my new haunt after work. Unfortunately by the time I decided to contact him, he had moved. He is also a sculptor and I comissioned him to do one for me. Never got it, but never paid either, so, so what. If your mind is not off of politics by now, seek professional help. T
