I finally got my power on after the remnants of the hurricane knocked it out for 3 days!  I was wondering how everybody in the Ark-La-Tex area fared.  I'm so glad I can take a hot shower and cook meals without my barbecue grill now.

Glad to say that we didn't lose power. The worst thing that happened apart from the fun evening wondering if a tornado was going to get us, was that a tree in a neighbours yard blew over.

Yayyyyy for hot water! I lost power up in Michigan and got over 6 inches of rain, only lost power for a night. I am glad to hear that you are safe and sound.

Wasn't just limited to that area, we ended up getting Ike's winds Sunday up here in Indiana. Took out several trees and of course dropped one on a power line that feeds our entire block. I have come to the conclusion that it costs me $45.00 a day to be off the power grid, that's what our generator has been using in gas, but it beats the alternative. Maybe we'll get power back by the end of the week...we hope.

Yeah! slaveboy glad you are okay!
I will never forget when I lost power for 4 days during the horrible
storms in 2003.
I learned that I am TOTALLY dependent on modern technology.
What activity did you miss the most, when you had no electricity?

Yesssssssss!

Once I got the correct stuff bypassed and drained the bladder tank (bunches) yes it worked! The problem was within the filtration system, bleached the housings and have sparkly, super high pressure, ice cold water with no colonies.

Thank you to everyone who helped, especially you Sanity for that awesome diagram.

Welcome back!  I can  relate to you.  My area got hit by Hurricane Charley in August of 2004 and it took two weeks to restore electricity in my area.  This was not good for elderly people who had to endure 90 degree temperatures during that time, either.

Thanks everybody for the welcome back.  It's wonderful to have the t.v. and computer back, Popeye.  I missed those the most.  I had to take everything out of my freezer which was a pain in the ass, but no biggie.  I didn't mind using the bbq for a few days.  I even managed to boil some water on it for coffee.  But I am glad I have the microwave back.

MzMia, I missed the hot water, t.v., and computer the most.  I read a lot the last couple of days.  I read 2 books, and I'm on a third one.  It was a little difficult doing that with a kerosene lamp.  Yep, I love modern conveniences....no doubt about it.

So  will you be issued a 3 day credit on the monthly connection fee of the electric?

if they bill $6.00 monthly fee...  that is $0.20 a day .   so 3 days = 60 cents.    which is more the 60 cents when the taxes are added.

I have no idea pahunkboy.  My parents are getting over a grand for the stuff they lost in their deep freeze.  I was over helping my dad saw down a tree when their insurance company called.  I am a renter, so no homeowner's insurance here.  I didn't have much in my freezer anyway.  But I thought it was kind of cool that their insurance company is going to pay for the food they lost.

Glad your safe and back on line...I missed your posts...You should add Missouri to your list as well... we had 3 deaths from the storm  within 10 miles of my house near St. Louis...not sure what happened out state. Plus we are still suffering flooding.

Thanks Butch.  Yeah I probably should have added some other states.  I haven't got any news other than the local paper in 3 days.  I'm glad you and everyone else here seems to be okay.  I heard from a friend of mine in the Houston area.  He said it was a mess down there, but it wasn't too bad.  He was mainly having issues getting gasoline, but he has his power on.

For all of those who rent instead of own a house, renters insurance should cover most of these loses. I always had it when I rented an aprtment before I bought. It is not expensive and in my mind well worth it...

My part of outlying Conway lost power for about 28 hours... It wasn't bad, at least the weather was cooler and less humid in the wake of the storm. Lack of a shower was an annoyance, but luckily my place of work has showers in the dressing rooms. The night of the storm, I was glad I had gotten one of those "freeplay" wind up radios... at least we kept up with the weather reports through the night. And one of the benefits of being a BDSM person is that there are always candles around.

So, we fared okay.

It's always the little things that catch you... we were down on matches, so we had to be careful lighting the stove. And we should have left buckets out on the porch, so that we could flush the toilets without having to trudge back to the creek.

We lost a perfectly good tree, but at least it missed the barn.

It was a storm. We coped.

Glad to hear you got through it okay. What did you notice that you needed... after you were already in the soup? (I'm always looking for tips.)
