Hey Corry,

I want to know who goes to jail over this terrific doom to our virginal nation!

Dare that they forever  scarred our fare nation.

Surely such a dastardly deed, would be punished.

?

You could say they are using the Social Security Trust Fund to bail out Wall Street.

Ooops.  that is already empty.

Cancel my retirement.  Now I get to work until I drop dead,

The nightmare is - that folks that did everything right, by the rules...now take a hit in their assets.

So how is THAT different then a burglary?

It isnt.

I been robbed!

China had the right idea by shooting their FDA guy.

I say if bailouts are offered at all they should be offered to citizens first, and perhaps even only to citizens. Government is supposed to serve citizens, not corporations.

What effect do you suppose it would have had if we took the bailout money given to Bear Stearns, Fannie and Freddie, AIG, etc., and divided it up amongst the citizens instead of handing it out to big business? It comes to a pretty big number of fiat dollars per citizen. How would you spend yours? How would that work to "stimulate" the economy?

Actually that is my exact solution for creating a more practical fiat system, all new money printed is directly distributed equally to the public. There is little advantage for the vested power class to open the presses then, and one just sets a rule that no money can be withdrawn by the federal reserve. Also the government will not have unlimited an unlimited money spiggot as they'd have to direct raise taxes, people don't like that crap. .
Simple, it would work well.

So what about McCain and his switch from being very very supportive of no regulation to his current stance?  He just switched  from his position in March.  It's like he played all the GOP voters still he was their man, now he sings another tune.

Now that "We" own AIG and AIG owns a large portion of Manchester United Soccer club in England...I think I will become a soccer hooligan...anyone else care to join me?

Thadius -> RE: Fed' "helping" AIG ?! (9/17/2008 1:06:44 PM)

I prefer Ajax over ManU... but perhaps that is what has been missing here in the states.  We have a severe shortage of soccer and the associated hooliganry.

I did see an interesting point made about this loan.  If the loan would have been granted Friday it would have only been $25 Billion as opposed to the 86 it took yesterday.

I am still torn on this one.  I see the rationale of why, yet I am not sure of the message it sends to others that might want to gamble in the more risky finance games.

Actually it is only because that is the team I was most exposed to watching the old ESPN latenight shows.  It seemed that it was always Ajax playing.  Oh and some of the exposure I have had to ManU fans helped form an opinion.  Maybe we could just have those 2 teams play every match of the season against each other, that should be good for bringing folks together. Breaking up big things because they are "too big" isn't always such a grand idea. Judge Greene tried that about 25 years ago and now we see AT&T slowly putting itself back together because it wasn't such a great idea after all.

The Internet as we know it wouldn't exist if AT&T hadn't been broken up.

How did you like paying a buck an hour for AOL? AT&T wants THREE Bucks an hour, btw....

75 bn loans.

what a crock.

What I find incredibly intriguing is that, there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Warren Buffet (who owns Gieco...a competitor in the institutional market) was involved in late night talks to purchase AIG for a song....and he didn't.

He didn't even offer one dollar for the thing.

If you think you've heard the worst of the news in the last few days....buckle up.

Interesting.  I cashed  in the stray stock that I had in march.

Check out the price of gold.  It went up $70.

Not that it matters much at this point, but I'm placing all the blame for this on Ronald "Government is the problem, not the solution" Reagan.

Yeah, I know, government regulation is SUCH a bad thing.  But we've seen time and time again what happens when you let vampires manage the blood bank.

And just exactly who benefitted from the AT&T breakup?  At one end, MCI.  Remember them?  And at the other end we could all go to Radio Shack and buy a Chinese-made phone for $10 and plug it in ourselves.  Say what you want about monopolies like AT&T used to be but the phone always worked when I wanted it.  Service calls were free.  And there was always a live, American-speaking person when I called for assistance.  So now AT&T is re-assembling itself.  It won't ever be the way it was - that's both good and bad - but it will once again be the largest phone company in the US.  If they can just keep from shooting themself in the foot...

I'm not looking for a total regulatory clamp-down, but it's clear that what's happened over the last 25 years is really coming home to roost.

And does anythone REALLY think this will change if McCain is elected?  I'm not saying Obama has the answers but I'll take a fresh face to a career politician any day.

I'm already jobless and about to be homeless so I have nothing to lose by what's going on.  It can only go up from here, right? :D

First off, i'm sorry to hear about your situation. Seriously, i hope things pick up for you.

Anyways, what else is Obama other than a career politician? McCain was a career military man, until, well, that changed. Then he became a career politician. At least McCain had a previous life outside of Washington. Now, he wasn't a community organizer, so I guess Obama has him on that. ;)
