Experience .... exshmerience!

Question,a simple one.

Which would you prefer?

A.~ A Captain with 50 experience who was running full steam at an iceberg?

or

B.~ A guy with little experience who wants to steer the ship away from the iceberg?

Keep it simple.Just answer the question as is.

The question is designed to show how even having experience, doesn`t mean you`re on the right course.

Thadius -> RE: Experience? (9/15/2008 4:38:12 PM)

A.

My reasoning, is that the captain with the experience must have some reason for doing so, and knows how to steer the ship.  The other guy might turn the ship into a valley and wind up hitting the iceberg broadside.

I will stay away from your obvious attempt to skew the political comparison.

pahunkboy -> RE: Experience? (9/15/2008 5:05:12 PM)

I would not want to be in the boat at all.

kdsub -> RE: Experience? (9/15/2008 5:09:44 PM)

Either one is better than a guy or gal that can't make their mind which way to steer...or which party they belong too.

BKSir -> RE: Experience? (9/15/2008 5:14:30 PM)

B

If choice A has so much 'experience', he wouldn't be aimed at the damned iceberg anyway!  He's a liar!

Oh...and one of those foofy, cruise ship coctails, with an excess amount of alcohol and little umbrella too please.

KCherry -> RE: Experience? (9/15/2008 5:16:35 PM)

I will take one of those too BK. Yay for little umbrellas!

beargonewild -> RE: Experience? (9/15/2008 5:18:30 PM)

Me too though I'd like a .........nevermind

IamElise -> RE: Experience? (9/15/2008 5:22:32 PM)

Sometimes prolific experience means you're not as careful. That's why he's aiming towards the iceberg. He's jaded, tired and wants to take everyone plus the ship down with him. Whereas someone who is new at commanding will be more observant. He'll take better precautions in order to insure the health and well being of the passengers. He will take pride in his ship because it's all so new and shiney in his eyes.

I guess.

Experiance does not equal intelligence.

The answer is C. Non of the above.

But the important question still remains.  Can we still have our coctails?

(A) survey of almost 1,250 registered voters showed that the vast majority have no doubt McCain is qualified for the White House. Asked if the Republican had the right experience to be president, 80% said yes (with only 14% saying no).

By contrast, close to a majority -- 48% -- said Obama lacks the experience for the job (with 44% saying yes).

B.

But, seeing how close we are to the damned iceberg, and the ship is short on lifeboats, I'd be down in the hold looking for anything that I can lash together that will keep me afloat...

celticlord2112 -> RE: Experience? (9/15/2008 7:20:35 PM)

A. Easily.

First off, this question has zero relevance to the election cycle at hand, so we will dispense with the irrational attempts to draw any sort of insane parallel to the election cycle. Neither candidate holds their master's ticket, and so will never be steering a ship in any waters let alone those of the North Atlantic.

Second, considering how the largest part of an iceberg is underwater, steering away from it arguably is more dangerous than hitting it head on. Just ask the captain of the Titanic how well steering away worked out.

cloudboy -> RE: Experience? (9/15/2008 7:56:08 PM)

The Republicans jettisoned experience overboard with their affirmative action selection of Sarah Palin. They don't believe its necessary anymore.

I think I would take my chance on the experienced captain. It takes years of command experience and training
before anyone has EARNED the right to captain a ship.  It's not a job you can bluff and talk your way into with words, just words!   Obviously, the example refers to a place like the North Atlantic and not some lovely lake in the middle of the midwest, for example.  Given your example  where the iceberg is seen since the ship is seen heading towards it, I would take a chance on the experienced captain's ability determine the right course of action and to give the right commands, reverse the thrust of the ships engines and steer clear of the iceberg.    Obviously, it assume that the captain in the example did not have money in the stock market and just wants to kill himself.  In that case ... I would rather be at the wheel.

WHAT IS CO?

Community organization is that process by which the people...organize themselves to 'take charge' of their situation and thus develop a sense of being a community together. It is a particularly effective tool for the poor and powerless as they determine for themselves the actions they will take to deal with the essential forces that are destroying their community and consequently causing them to be powerless.7

                Being a community organizer looks great on a resume' when applying  for politcal office.  In fact, some people think you don't need much else if the job you are seeking is President of the United States.

You are incorrect. Governor Palin has more relevant experience than Senator Obama.

When did she get her passport? What was her understanding of the Bush Doctrine? Did she graduate from Harvard Law School? Did she out campaign a heavy favorite to win her political seat? Was she right about the IRAQ war?

Here's C for my Capt with plenty of it.

We can see how well experience has worked by simply looking at the two top GOP people in the White House now.

If that's what you get with "expereince" I'll choose B

Sorry, but using only the example that you have provided here; I want the captain WITH 50 + experience.

I kept it simple [:)]
