MzMia -> Gas will remain high for at least 10 days, what about this winter? (9/14/2008 9:29:40 AM)

Well, it looks like gas prices remain a bit higher for at
least the next 10 days, or so.

The Oil Drum | DrumBeat: September 14, 2008

I am really expecting the price of oil to go up this winter based
on the increasing demands of colder weather in the USA.
Most signs show prices will go up this winter, the issue is how high
can they go?

I am predicting gas will be about $5 a gallon by January 2009.
Any thoughts, concerns, predictions?

Gas is going back up again for 10 ten days??? My only question would be why??? Why is it going up for 10 days and why has it gone up so high within the last year or so?? Are we close to running out of oil and no one has bothered to tell me??? I hope the billionaire oil big wigs that are responsible for this bullshit all drop dead.

Wait until you get your home heating bill in a few months if you
live in the North.
I have heard predictions of between a 25%-40% increase in home
heating costs.

This will be my first winter without heating bills and I'm looking forward to it. As to gas over the next ten days, I filled my tank yesterday and that will carry me through to my moving date. It will be more expensive for me to move now, but I actually budgeted in gas at $4.50 per gallon so I'm ready for that.

It will be interesting to see the change (if any) when I'm living in a city. I know at first there will be extensive driving, so I can find my way around and I get lost A LOT. So it will be heavy usage in the beginning. I am used to only going to the grocery store on a bi-weekly basis and there isn't much within driving distance right now. Yet in a city there is public transportation, bicycling and walking.. so all the stuff I want to get to may not even require gas!

In other words, I don't yet know how it will effect me. It will be just one of many changes in my life I'm sure.

Mia, I think you're wrong there.
Look at the tremendous resistance gasoline prices saw at $3.50-$4.00 per gallon!
The economy was beginning to shut down!
Even people like me who can "afford" it were staying in not going to restaurants or otherwise spending money on other things.
I'd only buy 3-5 gallons of gas at a time and that would last me for a week.
I'm not going to fill up and "store" 15 gallons of gas in my tank for the oil companies.
As far as the oil refineries in Texas "Ike" was a non-issue, they only had minor damage if any for some.
The raise in prices we've seen over the last few days is "price gouging."
The S.C. atty. gen's office has had ads on t.v. telling people to contact their office about any gas stations that raised prices in the last few days.
I think that prices will be under $3.00 by Jan 1st 2009.
With people using 11% less gas year over year than they did last year at this time, there is no "shortage!"

prices under $3.00 by Jan 1st, 09?!

lmao - not here in Chicago. prices "fell" to $3.98 before Hurricane Ike blew into Texas ...as of yesterday, i saw prices back to the "norm" at $4.28/regular.

I don't know for sure but  I suspect that more folks are going to be using wood stoves etc in the northern climes.
In pre-automobile days there was horse shit all over the place. But at least it can be used in the garden or composted.
Also, its 2008 where the hell are these cool space-age jet cars that run on kryptonite or whatever?

LOL!  I like you already, Onionlake. ;)

this energy shortage sucks.

land in PA just went up 3k an acre.   a Texas firm buying up  natural gas rights.  I guess we have a ton of it here.  Too bad the heating bill wont refect that!

Silly girl---winter is after the election, so why should this administration give a damn?

I hope you are right popeye, but I think you are dead wrong on this one.
Americans are very dependent on foreign oil at this time.
I don't see any way prices will go down this winter.

I tell you what, I will check ask you what you are paying for gas around Christmas time.

pahunkboy -> RE: Gas will remain high for at least 10 days, what about this winter? (9/14/2008 7:26:12 PM)

interesting way on popeyes low gas tank theory.

I do the oposite.  I keep the tank fileld up.   THo I moved all errands closer to home.  The dentist- the pharmicist, what ever I could so as to drive less.

I just prefer to have the potential to drive-   ie fileld tank... then not use it- or put another way. wisely use it.

subtex -> RE: Gas will remain high for at least 10 days, what about this winter? (9/14/2008 7:56:56 PM)

I agree gas prices will go up when it gets cold but crude seems to be on a downward trend right now.  Where will the bottom be in crude?  How far down it goes might affect how high it will be in Jan.  The bottom is falling out of all commodities right now and seems to have more to do with market forces than supply and demand.  I'm going with the idea that it will gradually fall till the end of  Autumn.

$150/bbl was a wake-up call.  I wonder if we'll go back to sleep.  Nice site by the way.  I like to keep up with the energy sector.

And another cheery thought: we're not even halfway through hurricane season.
