I disagree. Panic is a sudden overwhelming fear that comes on with or without cause. It produces irrational behavior that doesn't allow for a choice to do something or not do something. It has nothing to do with insecurities. Insecurities are something completely different from panic. Panic instantly destroys self-control making rational thought impossible.

Just last week I was in a situation I was enjoying very much, but then the Dom's tone with whom I was playing (someone I hadn't played with before) suddenly became very harsh when I didn't answer the question he had asked as quickly as he would have liked. That immediately triggered something and put me into a panic. Instantly, without any thought or any ability to control my reaction, I curled up into a ball, withdrew and started crying. It took him a good half hour to pull me out of that panic and calm me to the point where he could find out what happened.

Ray, I also disagree. Panic is a primal body response to fear. Whether fear of a saber tooth tiger or fear of emotional pain, some of us go really quickly into fight, flight or freeze. And when you can't fight, run away, or hide, the cortisol and other body chemicals that build up don't just disappear, they get released in panic.
