Interesting data on this website concerning the three senators involved in this election. http://councilfor.cagw.org/site/PageServer?pagename=reports_Ratings_Intro

Click on the 2007 Senate Scorecard link, scroll down to page 7, and you will see the percentage of times a senator voted against pork and earmark bills last year. They rate them for 2007 and lifetime as well. I won't give away the ending, I'll let you check out the info for yourself, but guess which senator has the highest percentage of voting against pork and special interests? And guess which senators have the lowest? In other words, who actually has the history of looking out for the American taxpayer?

Jim DeMint is one of my senators and he's doing a great job fighting for the Taxpayers!
The other one, Lindsey Graham is corrupt and a piece of shit and hopefully he'll be getting the heave-ho in November.

Why let facts cloud peoples minds when they can listen to a cool speech of empty words?

My vote still goes for "none of the above" on election day...but the facts do speak for themselves.
McCain does appear to be the one looking out for the regular person more so than the others.

Ah, a fellow South Carolinan who knows Lyndsey Graham as I do. He is a piece of junk.

McCain has no clue except how to vote with GWB 90 percent of the time.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, the Pig Book has been used to benefit corporate donors, specifically health clubs who donated to CAGW. The Pig Book listed federal grants to YMCAs who compete with those health clubs as waste. CAGW's president countered that "The Ys are there because they qualify as pork. Period."[16]

A Senate Finance Committee investigating ties between CAGW and other non-profits and Jack Abramoff in 2006 stated in a report that the non-profits: 'probably violated their tax-exempt status "by laundering payments and then disbursing funds at Mr. Abramoff's direction; taking payments in exchange for writing newspaper columns or press releases that put Mr. Abramoff's clients in a favorable light; introducing Mr. Abramoff's clients to government officials in exchange for payment; and agreeing to act as a front organization for congressional trips paid for by Mr. Abramoff's clients."'[17]

In 2007, CAGW supported a bill that would limit damages resulting from malpractice lawsuits[4]. Many consumer watchdog groups opposed the bill.

Miss, you do realize that Obama (when he takes the time to vote) Biden, and the REST of congress also vote with Bush 90% of the time, right?

This Kos talking point is ridiculous, when was the last time Congress told GWB no on a spending bill?

I've always found most earmarks to be ridiculous. They get a lot of press because they are so ridiculous, but in reality they are pretty inconsequential, amounting to less than 1% of the federal budget. They make for great campaign speeches though.

Ah, yes, Ronald Reagan used to pull his pen out of his pocket too, line item veto, and proceeded to preside over the largest inflation of government in history, all the while eschewing same.

A more fair comparison of earmark spending addenendums would be to check Sid 'Vicious' McCains freshman record against Obama.

See, John can by dint of seniority get a bill on the slate (therefore not earmark) even as a minority member nowadays. and he was about as not present NV as Obama.

That is why the 10 million dollars going to the university of AZ for the Rehnquist Law School wasnt an 'earmark'. Or the bailout of Charles Keating.....and many others.

Line Item Veto Act of 1996

Presidents have repeatedly asked Congress to give them a line item veto power. According to Louis Fisher in The Politics of Shared Power, Ronald Reagan said to Congress in his 1986 State of the Union address, "Tonight I ask you to give me what forty-three governors have: Give me a line-item veto this year. Give me the authority to veto waste, and I'll take the responsibility, I'll make the cuts, I'll take the heat." Bill Clinton echoed the request in his State of the Union address in 1995.

This ruling was subsequently affirmed on June 25, 1998, by a 6-3 decision of the Supreme Court of the United States in the case Clinton v. City of New York. The case was brought by the then New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.

A constitutional amendment to give the President line item veto power has been considered periodically since the Court ruled the 1996 act unconstitutional. Some scholars, including Louis Fisher, believe the line item veto would give presidents too much power over government spending compared with the power of Congress.
