The U.S. government, however, appeared unconcerned.

U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack poked fun at Russia's navy, saying if Russia really intends to send ships to the Caribbean, "then they found a few ships that can make it that far."

No big deal. The Russian navy is dog feces compared to ours. It's literally nothing. Chavez will work it for all he can, but as the article clearly says, the U.S. State Dept. is just yawning - and with good reason.

Russia under Putin (make no mistake, he's still the one in charge.) are holding on the glory days of the Soviet Union. I am not discounting Russia as a world power by any means, but they won't be back in the game for awhile. All of this is basically dick waving, and it's rather comical.

Wasn't Russia the country that paid for the cold war instead of borrowing all the money ? Wasn't it Russia that built Moskit 2 missiles that outperform most of what we have ? (hell even France did that with the Exocet, now outdated of course)

He who laughs last laughs best. This government had better realize that we live on a planet with other people and they are not all our friends, and especially that we are not the best at everything. We can't even build a goddam TV set.

Do people understand that the reason the 1991 Iraq war went so well because the Iraq defense system computers had been sabotaged ? Do people understand that the US military will let you enlist at 40 with a felony on your record ? Do people realize that we are plain old out of money ?

He who laughs last will be determined. Let me ask you this, how much of Russia's national debt do we hold ?

There is a seriously large bag of shit headed for a very large fan if we can't put a stop to this stoooooooooooopidity.

Oh, Russian weapons will soon be in Cuba again as well, which will make them a protectorate, which means an attack by the US would be seen by the international community as an act of war against Russia. Keep it up Dubya.

No, that was the Soviet Union. It went broke and destroyed itself from within.

People with felony records and less than honorable character have been entering the military since it's inception. I remember a speech I heard from a Korean War veteran. He talked about all the guys in his company that were convicted felons. He said they were thieves, drunks, etc. But he said they were "magnificent bastards." Yeah they have raised the age maximum. But people live longer now, and a 40 year old man isn't over the hill anymore. Most of us don't destroy our bodies working in coal mines from sun-up to dusk now a days.

As for the rest of what you said, Term......Russia can't afford to really take us on right now. It has tremendous problems of it's own. All of this is just an attempt to hold on to the old glory days of the Soviet Union, and those days are gone. We have more to worry about with China than we do with the Russians.
