ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A Republican lawmaker wants the Democrat overseeing an investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's dismissal of her public safety commissioner removed because he seems intent on damaging her vice presidential candidacy.

Democratic state Sen. Hollis French "appears to be steering the direction of the investigation, its conclusion and its timing in a manner that will have maximum partisan political impact on the national and state elections," state Rep. John Coghill said in a letter dated Friday.

Coghill wrote in the letter that French was quoted in media reports that the results of the probe were going to be an "October surprise" that is "likely to be damaging to the administration." The comments lead Coghill to believe the investigation is lacking in fairness, neutrality and due process, he wrote.

Coghill said he was not approached by the McCain-Palin campaign to draft the letter, but that he called the campaign to "apprise" them of the letter.

"I'm on my own in this one," he said.

French said he said some things he probably shouldn't have, but noted that he is not in charge of gathering the facts and writing the report. Prosecutor Stephen Branchflower was hired to conduct the investigation and the integrity of the probe remains intact, he said.

Actually, the con has it backwards.

The election is getting in the way of an on-going investigation.

Do they think a nomination allows them different treatment?

If she get`s a pass just b/c she`s been picked for VP, it will mean that law and order have no meaning.

Moving the trail till after her she`s been elected?

Pah-lezzz.A state trail of a sitting VP?......

This is Bush all over again and that`ll will be easy to point out.

What were they thinking?

Next couple weeks will be telling.

As folks get to know more about her and her shenanigans,McCain will have to defend/explain her.

There`s an old adage that a VP should be in the news 3 times:announcement, inauguration and at the end.In other words, out of the news.

A book banning, fundie segregationist who abuses power and then sues herself to postpone her investigation and legal hearings?

Segregationist? Did I miss that one? (I was out yesterday... so they could have found three or four more things out about her extreme views, for all I know...) Or did you mean "creationist?"

This investigation was going on before she was picked for VP, and it will continue through the next 60 days... and, no matter if they win or lose, it will probably continue after the election too.

My mistake,I meant to write secessionist.

I really don't see where the GOP has the right to complain about any of their members being investigated in any case. They spent tens of millions in investigating the Whitewater trading deal of the Clintons, and when that couldn't find anything worth prosecuting, they had Ken Starr change tracks and spend more time and money getting Clinton on ANYTHING they possibly could.... finally pressuring him into purgery...

So, what started off as a possibly valid investigation into a real estate deal, ended up as a trial, three years later, over his lieing over getting a blow job... (final cost to tax payers = $138 million.)

Now THAT is a great example of "politics involved in an investigation."

So what should we conclude about the Dems wanting to talk about Palin more than Obama?

How is discussing Palin getting Obama's message of "change" out?

How many times do we need to go over this? The change was 27 cents.

I guess what I have learned from the media recently is that it's ok to attack a person based on gender but not their race!
Is this the environment and media inquiry females who run for office will have to overcome in the future?  MSNBC, CNN and the rest of the herd attacking Palin on the basis of gender are setting woman back decades. I think her record as Governor, mayor, or national security are valid for discussion.  However, will many qualified woman who just happen to have children and are pro-life be precluded from seeking office solely because the press feels they should stay home with the kids or not want to abort a child growing in the womb?  Do you think that's fair game versus a man who, it seems to me, is not asked to share family responsibilites by the press and doesn't have to make a tough decision with respect to a person growing within them?

Hell cory, you know we Americans, we'll attack anyone for just about any reason. The Govenor is no different than any other politician. It is no different than Obama's birth certificate, Tony Rezko, anyone who claims they slept with Bill Clinton or how much money Hillary made from beef futures. We all discount most of what we read and hear(I think). As for what The Dems, as celtic refers to us as, a lot of this stuff comes from people with a seperate axe to grind aside from party politics. ( I think he knows this as well but just can't help himself and loves to get people going, been known to do the same Myself) If anything of the smear that goes on in politics is true we will know soon enough.
Surely you don't think that the Gov. deserves a free pass based on gender? As for the CNN, MSNBC etc. I don't watch FoxNews, I don't listen to Hannity(what torture that would be) change the station! When you are an unknown, and you want to hold national office black, female, WASP or Jewish you have chosen to swim with the sharks in all beef underware....someone is going to take a bite of you...if she is as tough, and honest as everyone claims etc. she'll survive it...fairly sure it isn't her first rodeo.

You've just learned this recently?  Did you not notice the treatment of Hillary Clinton during her campaign for the nomination?

Guess I was pretty naieve and thought those days were behind us. Yes, Hillary was drawn and quartered by the media who did more to derail her candidacy than any republican "stop Hillary"  campaign could ever do and they
did it with the power of 24/7 access to the microphone and camera.  Geraldine Ferrara was quite correct early on and the press squashed her with a sledge hammer.

While the press continues to give Obama a free pass, soft ball interviews ( who could forget the dem debates that than went on to become an SNL skit!) they are now viciously"vetting" Sarah Palin.  The only reason why some of the background of Obama's circle of friends was ever made known to the public was because of talk radio and bloggers.  We never heard of USA hating Jerimiah Wright, we never heard of his association with the admittted terrorist William Ayers, we never heard about Tony Rezko the convicted felon, or that insane priest who did imitations of Hillary from from the media until after Obama had already won important primary caucus votes.

I wonder what the results in Iowa would have been had everyone known the background of this radical leftist now at the top of the democrat ticket.  Hillary was the best one in the pack of finalists and was correct in her assessment of Barack.  I disagree with many of Hillary's political views, but she had the experience to lead the country while, as she said, Barrack gave a speech in 2002!

This November the people who voted in those states PRIOR to the "outing" of some of Obama's past will have a choice to make...vote for the articulate, clean guy as Biden described him, or for team McCain/Palin.  That is the only poll that has meaning, and based on more than a sample of 1,000 people.
