Freedom's Defense Fund, a Washington political group, is running a new TV ad in Michigan and Ohio that highlights Barack Obama's ties to embattled Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Kilpatrik recently plead guilty to counts of misconduct in office, obstruction of justice, perjury, and conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice.

The new television ad highlights Obama giving a speech in 2007 praising and endorsing Kilpatrick calling him a great leader for Detroit and a role model for leaders across the country. The ad then asks viewers to evaluate the choices Obama makes in chosing his friends.

Here is a link that shows the video of the ad that is playing...

Michigan is a critical swing state in the 2008 election that traditionally votes Democratic and Kerry won in 2004. The state has 17 electoral votes. Recent polls suggest the race in that state is a statistical dead heat between McCain and Obama.

I can say that I currently control 2 votes here in Michigan, and neither will be cast for Obama.  Talking to many of the folks in town, and at other places I frequent, many seem to be in agreement.  I cannot say how this will play out downstate in Detroit and Pontiac, but where I am I haven't seen an Obama sign, yet.

It sounds like another Republican dirty trick to me.

Damn that Karl Rove!

My favorite part of the article

quote:

The newspaper said Brent Colburn, Obama's Michigan spokesman, has dismissed the ad as "the same old desperate, cynical Washington-style political attacks."

Yet, trying to paint McCain as being Bush is.... somehow new and invigorating.[8|]

Detroit is the main reason Michigan stays blue all the time. But considering the level of corruption over the past decade, a lot of people are starting to come to their senses that the change they need is to throw the Democrats out who have been running that city and state for decades.

And the city is a mess. Detroit high schools have a 75% drop out rate (the highest in the nation). Jobs are gone. Crime is up. Property values I dont think can possibly get any lower, and the population is declining.
