Sanity -> Proud Of Code Pink / Violent Protesters? (9/4/2008 7:32:02 PM)

I'm watching the McCain speech tonight, and I see several individuals trying to interrupt him. Who here thinks it's right to interfere with the free speech of political candidates, or to try to intimidate delegates who are trying to attend a political gathering, trying to exercises their freedom of assembly.

Anyone?

kittinSol -> RE: Proud Of Code Pink / Violent Protesters? (9/4/2008 7:36:44 PM)

Yep, saw them too - they've really disrupted the beginning of his speech.

"You can't win an occupation": that was on one of the protesters' banner.

The Republicans, of course.

Do you think that Code Pink hasn't been able to get it's antiwar message out? Is this really necessary? Or do you think that tonight John McCain has the right to free speech, and that he had ought to be free to enjoy that right.

And what of the violence. Can only the people who Code Pink (or whatever they call themselves) likes assemble? Is that the kind of country anyone wants?

*Shrug*. I don't know, man. I just commented that I'd seen what you'd seen: why are you asking me? It's not like I'm a codepinkist or anything like that.

Unless... did you hear rumours again [8D] ?

Sanity -> RE: Proud Of Code Pink / Violent Protesters? (9/4/2008 7:48:04 PM)

So are you proud of these protesters?

Do you believe that only Democrats should be free to assemble and speak?

...not me. i believe that everyone has the right to free speech. Which is why i am worried about Sarah "rhetorically speaking can you ban these books?" Palin.......

Sanity -> RE: Proud Of Code Pink / Violent Protesters? (9/4/2008 8:10:38 PM)

So you disagree with Code Pink, and the violent protesters in St. Paul...

Thank you.

I agree that the press should be free to print unsubstantiated allegations like that about Sarah Palin, too. Here's one right back at you, though: are you as generous towards tabloid attacks on Obama? Running with unsubstantiated rumors about his upbringing, or other wild rumors regarding his past personal life?

Personally, I hope that the media keeps up its vicious attack on Governor Palin, because they're backfiring.

Just reflecting on the restrictions the Republicans have voted on for us.  Like the wiretapping situation.. Patriot Act as an excuse to control the people.  It doesn't keep you from speaking, but it sure makes it uncomfortable and anything that you say can and will be used and turned against you.  The Republican party has done enough damage.

bipolarber -> RE: Proud Of Code Pink / Violent Protesters? (9/4/2008 9:32:15 PM)

Proud, no.

But tonight at the RNC, perhaps republicans got a tiny hint at how utterly hated they are. The boiling water of dissent has had a cover slapped onto it for too long. Now the pressure has built to the point where that cover is getting ready to explode.

Poor John McCain... he had people trying to heckle him.

Terrible, just terrible...

All Obama had to worry about were death threats, and the possibility of being shot by a sniper while he was standing at a podium in the center of an outdoor stadium. (An action that whacked-out, bigoted, white-power republicans have historically repeated several times over the decades.)

Yeah, I'm real sympathetic to John McCain right now.

TheHeretic -> RE: Proud Of Code Pink / Violent Protesters? (9/4/2008 9:38:56 PM)

I thought McCain's 'people are tired of us yelling at each other' was an excellent response.  Not as good as saying, that's the sort of freedom he spent five years in a box for, but it worked.

      That's what Code Pink does.

All of them get death threats from wackos.  I don't remember any serious assassination attempts by "whacked out, bigoted, white-power republicans" (what ever the fuck that is) in the last few decades.  I remember a plot to kill Bush Sr. by Saddam Hussein.  I remember an attempt to kill Reagan by a wacky man trying to impress Jodi Foster.  I remember  two women trying to kill Gerald Ford, and I wouldn't call a member of the Manson Family a Republican.  I remember a nutty, lonely man with delusions of grandeur and a professed Marxist successfully murdering JFK.  But nope, no right-wingers in that whole bunch.

bipolarber -> RE: Proud Of Code Pink / Violent Protesters? (9/4/2008 9:58:02 PM)

MLK
Harvey Milk
Larry Flynt
Kennedy
Kennedy
(and most recently) Gwatney

I thought you said you were from Arkansas?

Christ. (shakes head sadly)

TheHeretic -> RE: Proud Of Code Pink / Violent Protesters? (9/4/2008 10:16:46 PM)

Sirhan Sirhan was a "white-power Republican???"

Are you sure you didn't see a lot more minorities in the RNC crowd than you are admitting to?

Well I was only talking about Presidential candidates, but okay.  MLK was killed by Earl Ray.  Earl Ray was a common criminal, and we really don't know what his motivations were.  He denied involvement until his death.  He was never openly politcal, and he was never affiliated with the Republican Party.

Harvey Milk was killed by Dan White, who was a Democrat.  It had nothing to do with Milk's sexual orientation.  White was simply a disgruntled, former city official.

Larry Flynt was killed by a serial killer motivated by racist ideology.  He was not a Republican, and no matter what you believe....the Republican Party has never been affiliated with any white-supremacist hate group.  It's like trying to blame the Democratic Party for the actions of far Left groups like the Sybonese Liberation Army, the Weatherman, or eco-terrorists.

As I said before about JFK, he was killed by a self-professed Marxist who had renounced his citizenship and defected to the Soviet Union.  He was a sad, lonely man with a need to be important.  He was a nobody that wanted to be a somebody.  He was never a member of the Republican Party.

Robert Kennedy was killed by Sirhan Sirhan, who was Palestinian.  Although he denies it now, his motivations had to do with RFK's support of Israel.  Again, he was never a member of the Republican Party or a right winger.

Bill Gwatney was murdered by a man who just lost his menial job at Target.  He was never a member of the Republican Party, and he was never openly political.  He was killed by the police, and no one knows why he did what he did.  I suspect he had mental problems, and he couldn't deal with his own failings in life.  So he snapped.  I am fairly sure that personal politics had nothing to do with his actions.

So again, you're wrong.  It's amazing to me that you seem to attack what you conceive as bigotry with your own prejudice and bigotry.  You seem to view everything in terms of us and them.  It's the simple mind that views the world in such a way.

servantforuse -> RE: Proud Of Code Pink / Violent Protesters? (9/5/2008 5:38:51 AM)

The demonstrators in St.Paul were not protestors, they were thugs and terrorists. Several women, one of them 73 years old were taken to the hospital after being doused with bleach. All they were trying to do was get in the convention hall..That was a full blown riot, not an protest..

SilverMark -> RE: Proud Of Code Pink / Violent Protesters? (9/5/2008 7:32:56 AM)

Just because I had no idea who code Pink was I did a little reading....they protested Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats as well as Republicans at the Valerie Plame hearings. One of the things they have done to the Democrats is play Pin the War on the Donkey....hmmmmm....maybe they are just Independent nutbags?
Who knows, when it comes to war, some might even be ...Oh My God....can you believe it....REGISTERED REPUBLICANS!!!!!lol....

How many republicans interupted the speeches at the DNC?

You're aware, aren't you, that the Democrats voted for the Patriot Act.

Aren't you?

But back to these radicals, what do you think of their behavior. Do you agree with it, or no?

...absolutely. i am right alongside the concept of peaceful protest, and when necessary peaceful direct action.  Back in the day when i was far more politically active i argued not to prevent neo-nazis marching in the UK. My reasoning was that we were in a battle with them, a battle of ideas. We couldn't win that battle unless we let them present those ideas. i was/am confident that their ideology thrived in darkness......by letting them into the light we helped them show themselves to the thugs i believe they are.

...bring on the rumours. Then have the rebuttals given as much airtime as the rumours themselves. Point out who started the rumours....

..as would any unsubstantiated rumours about Obama.......assuming all things are equal.
