Brown/Bounds Interview

Do you think Campbell Brown was out of line? McCain did and canceled an interview with CNN as a result.

If it was out of line, what specifically was objectionable?

If it wasn't out of line, is the canceling of the CNN interview a political maneuver? Is it pissy?

Other thoughts?

[Edited because I can't spell until after noon.]

Well, her voice alone would give me cause to join the NRA.

She asked a fair question, and the deliberately obtuse guy selected by the GOP wasn't equiped to provide any answers. They're attempting to 'punish' the journalist, but ultimately it makes McCain look weak that he is avoiding her.

I thought her voice was fine: it was the non-answers that made me want to bang my head against the wall. See? You want to go and shoot someone, and I turn my frustration upon myself... I'm such a female [8|] .

It was telling that the campaign officer refused to answer the question for the first two minutes of the interview. This is also a perfect illustration of a political boomerang or blowback to the attacks Republicans have launched against Obama.

The Palin pick also shows McCain never personally believed in the criticisms leveled against Obama's "lack of experience," and the whole "lack of experience" argument has been exposed as an empty, cynical, RNC talking point.

Lol,and that guy there,making stuff up as he went,is a would-be member on McCain`s new admin.[image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m28.gif[/image]

What does this show?

1. McCain can`t take the heat.

2. They have the same level (or lower)of candor ,that the Bush admin. has.

3. There were no decisions made be the Governess concerning the National Guard.

4. McCain hires losers.

Pick one ,...or all four.[:D]

This will only play well with the base, who are sold lock, stock and oil barrel, anyway.

It won`t play well with normal regular folks.

Now now Quick Draw McPaw, I never said I'd shoot her. A simple warning
shot to take out her ear piece ought to do the trick. After handing out earmuffs
to quiet the intial shriek, shriek, shriek of course.

He did the same thing in St. Louis because the interviewer refused to follow his campaign managers scripted questions.

Too much fast talking for the old Man. It sounded like a bunch of gossipers at a party somewhere, bitching about something. I might be able to take her on, but by the time I am in my 60s ? I don't know. What I do know is if they were at my house I would throw them both out.

If he becomes president, I imagine he'll only give speeches in front of military audiances... the same way Bush had to, in order to not have to answer "difficult, troubling" questions from reporters.

Thadius -> RE: Over the Line? McCain Cancels CNN Interview (9/3/2008 11:26:04 AM)

Is the same question asked about why Obama pretty much ducked Fox news, and only now has agreed to sit down with O'Reily?   It is all political, and one way a campaign has to say "you fucked up".  McCain has always been very open to the press, and apparantly on this couple of issues they couldn't go to the campaign to ask the question?

So do you still beat your spouse?  (around here that question would have a completely different context, yet it still only allows for one possible scenario, that the accusation is true)

You found my questions--there were a few, not one--objectionable and similar to"do you still beat your wife?"

Your questions are simple to handle, however if you look at the way they handled reporting this issue.  They basicly played it like Us weekly is doing.  Babies, lies, and scandal.  They dished the dirt without doing any investigation, or even asking for clarification of the matters from the accused.  Hardly journalism, at least not in my book.

The point is, even the damn Enquirer, when they ran the Edwards story contacted him and his people for statements and such before running with it.  So how do you deal with a media outlet that acts irresponsibly?  You cut them off for a bit, let them only get pool feeds, the same thing that every other politician has done, and will continue to do.

My point is, that there is nothing new here with the treatment of CNN.  I detest the gotcha politics on both sides, and have pointed out where the media wars have gone wrong the other way.  Just like if you see the links I post, I try to stay away from the political hack sites.

Well that was a lively conversation.  Yes, expect that both candidates to add and cancel press meetings, debates and interview in the months to come.

Termyn8or -> RE: Over the Line? McCain Cancels CNN Interview (9/3/2008 1:41:49 PM)

OK

Bounds : First of all we are talking about different kinds of experience. Second of all, no candidate actually has any experience at all for the job they seek. This is fact. Senator McCain has been around foreign affairs for a while and is familiar with the situation, and he is the one to be President. I'm sure he is capable of understanding what the executive branch does. His choice for vice President reflects that she has beliefs that are close to his. The logic does not come much simpler than that. The fact that she has been in charge of SOME government somewhere is just a plus.

Brown : Yet you criticisize Barack Obama for inexperience, how do you explain that ?

Bounds : Like I said, there are different kinds of experience. An aspiring civil engineer might, when younger, work on construction projects, an aspiring engineer might seek out a factory job, an aspiring doctor might work in a research lab or something. This is prepatory experience.

Brown : So you have to admit that senator McCain has no such real experience.

Bounds : Correct, but neither do you and neither do I. It's not like they are holding out job offers for President, like there could be a thousand of them or something, there is only one, and nobody with real experience is running.

Brown : So you are negating everything the republican party has said about senator Obama's lack of experience then.

Bounds : Not really, like I said it is important just what kind of experience it is, having a job at Taco Bell does not get you a flight certificate or license, working as a landscaper does not qualify you to build a bridge, it depends on the type of experience.

Now take a look at what I have just made up, actually arguing against myself, because I want to see Obama in the big chair. Problem is that nobody seems to be able to see both sides, to think on their feet, and that is what would have gotten those two thrown out of my house. It literally sounded like children bickering to me. Almost as if each was told what to say (go figure).

I am not impressed by any of these people, Obama is the lesser of two evils. That is all.
