For me, it's being told that what I did was useful. It doesn't really what it was or if I considered it useful. If he looks at me, smiles and says "Thank you Kitten, that was useful" (or something along those lines) I'm happy.

I think more in terms of being pleasing rather than useful. With R. there is HIS way of doing certain things which make no sense to me, but he is pleased that I follow his rules/directions.
Then there are just things they like to do: S. always takes me to dinner when he visits.  Am I useful in that case?  Not necessarily, but he enjoys good food and drink with a companion who can keep up her end of the conversation.

What do you need or does your submissive need in order to feel useful?  If you partner perceives something as useful to them, does it automatically make you/them feel useful?  Do you even need to feel useful in your relationship?

I'll take a slightly different approach to this question.  I feel that if I was useless then my Owner would no longer wish to be in a relationship with me, who would find joy in a relationship with a useless person?  So no, I don't feel the need to perform chores or the like in order to feel that I have some use, or am useful, in fact we share the tedium of menial tasks, taking turns or doing them together.

Knight's Kyra

I sat and thought about this and realised I do not 'need' or have something specific to feel useful.  If I was not 'useful', the relationship simply wouldn't exist anyway.
