Recently i was talking with a group of men about how they define love. i'm still not sure i can come up with an 'actual definition'. Although, i do hold certain beliefs about it. Love, to me, is a decision, it's an action, it's a verb. However, i also know that my experience with love (unconditional love) is very limited. In fact, it was only 7 1/2 years ago when my nephew was six months old laying on my bed and it hit me. I loved him!!! Not, only that, but he loved me!! It was the first time my belief that i was not capable of loving or being loved was even challenged. How do You define Love? kali

Some of what I said elsewhere: For ME, love is an umbrella term that covers feelings arising from affection, respect, adoration, physical attraction, mental attraction, admiration, devotion, friendship, etc. I don't believe in love at first sight, although I do believe in LUST at first sight, curiosity at first sight, attraction at first sight, etc. I don't believe you can love someone you've never met, because the person you love is your mental perception of who they are. Some people get lucky and the person they eventually meet IS the same as the perception they've carried in their head, but generally, you hear that is not the case. Cali

Love is what i felt for my children...instantly, as soon as i knew they existed. It's what i feel for family out of obligation...but duty, and loyalty later. It's what i feel for a friend after sharing bits and parts of each other that build trust and ease. It's what i feel for a partner after denying, and struggling, and finally acquiescing...and then, it's a complete surrender. In all these cases, for me, there comes a time when the denial of self-interest first, comes into play, and i realize that the person i love, (whatever our affiliation) is someone for whom i could sacrifice something---in varying degrees.

I agree with CaliChick about love. I couldnt have said it better Myself. Im wary when it comes to that word love and another person. Im tooo cynicle for it. Love at first site-no. I think its merely a perception of the mind(as CC puts it). I think the heart is the most deceptive thing on a person's body(which is most associated with love). When someone says to "lead with your heart" I immediately think"if I do that, I know I will run into a brick wall!" I have an open mind, but not an open heart-therefore love(when it comes to Me) is closed. LOL, Im not a heartless Woman by any means..afterall, I DO love My kids. But thats the only exception. Caring about and loving are two totally different things to Me. While I do care about My kids....I care about others(and even thats limited to a select few).

to me love is the willingness to give of yourself openly and as fully as you can, accepting the openness and fullness of giving from your partner (who presumably feels the same way). The willingness to accept the warts and wrinkles along with the beauty. The willingness to work WITH your partner to help you both grow as individuals and as partners. The willingness to work through the inevitable rocky places, as well as to celebrate each moment of joy.

Love is a very relative term. One person's love is another person's lust, or simple like or infatuation. The best definition of love I've ever heard was from Robert A. Heinlein. "Love is the condition in which another person's happiness is essential to your own." But honestly, why worry so much about defining love? Why do we want to pin it down like an exotic bug and put it in a jar labeled "Love" ? It just seems silly to try to accurately define the parameters of an emotion. Fuck it, I say. We don't all sit around trying to figure out exactly what sadness, or grief, or indifference is. We know it when we feel it or see it. So take love at face value, and stop being so critical of it. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to xtube.com to fall in love.

Love is staying up all night to help someone finish and type a term paper. Love is going out at 3 am to buy orange juice because someone is sick and needs it. Love is that ache in your heart and the tears in your eyes when you see your beloved suffering. Love is smiling and cherishing a gift given to you - even though you have 100 of them, you don't have one from them. Love is allowing someone to grow even if that means away from you. Love is letting go not hanging on. Love is opening up your heart and letting in Love is taking risks.
