OK this is for the cat lovers ...

Two months ago I adopted Indie; a 5 week old black kitten that had been found outside, underneath a dumpster. (He got his name because I got him on Independence Day.) At first he was really sick and lethargic but after taking him to the vet and getting the proper meds and nutrients, he's turned into a little ninja. He plays ALL the time.

So, I decided to get him a playmate and adopted a second kitten about three days ago. (This one doesn't have a name yet but I'm leaning towards calling him Nick.) Here's my problem though ... The second kitten is about 6 weeks old and only half the size of Indie and Indie plays ROUGH.

Every five minutes I'm seperating them because the little one is screaming (or mewing loudly, however you like it) and Indie won't let him go. But as soon as I step back, the little guy goes in for more. So, should I just leave them alone? I'm worried about Indie getting too rough and hurting the little one but on the other hand, is this just how they're going to play?

I know, I should just go find a veterinary board but this is off topic and some of ya'll might have some advice. :)

Noise is part of their play. You'll know when he is really hurting. If he jumps back for more he's probably not being injured.  Cats when they are really fighting have fur that stands up and they hiss.

Take indy aside and have a talk, mew in a demanding tone of voice, play nice with your brother/sister and to not hurt him/her, then let em be only interfear now and again.

I'd let them play.  I think Velvet has good advice.  If the cat was scared he wouldn't run back for more.  Instead he'd be hiding somewhere away from Indi.

Nope...they are just playing...trust me, what you think is rough play really isn't.....older, stronger animals know that they can do harm, and tend to hold back......I've seen it many a time with my dog and his kittens, and with my monster KB when we introduced his brothers Smooch and Boo.....trust me, when Nick gets bigger, poor little Indie is gonna get his furry little butt kicked!  But watch out....you're gonna get played too.....I used to rescue Smooch cuz he was smaller then KB and his brother Boo.....now Smooch will start a fight (play), and holler for help when he thinks they are getting the upper hand....thinks it's easier to holler for help than take his beatin'!  If you pay attention to their play, you'll notice that they aren't actively using their claws.....they may catch each other with them, but the claws themselves are still sheathed.

Congrats on the adoptions.....you're in for one heck of a ride.....and you might want to think about baby-proofing...once they start chasing each other around, NOTHING is safe!

I'm going to be such an over protective mother. I can just sense it.

Just don't spoil them too much, over-protective is fine. [:D]

Some discipline is in order here - i would suggest a cat-o-nine tails whip as being most appropriate.      [:D]
