Status: offline 		Russia continues to find itself more and more isolated.

China and 4 other central asian nations refused to support Russia's invasion of Georgia or its plans to redraw Georgia's international borders. Russia was pleading for support with the 6-member Shanghai Coorpoeration Organization. Instead the SCO rebuffed Russia and unanimously voted on a statement that Russia should respect international borders and should not be allowed to give independance to disputed region of South Ossetia.

Russia has also recieved a strong warning from France, Britain, and Germany to stay out of Ukraine.

Status: offline 		Yes, but bears are unpredictable creatures.  Is the Russian bear going to stay in that corner or come charging out of the cave?

They need a coalition of  the payed off,errr.......coalition of the "willing", to back them up and provide political cover,like the cons needed in the middle east.

It`s laughable that anyone would expect Russia to care about world public opinion.Completely hilarious.

That lack of concern is something neo-cons share with the soviets.They don`t give a rat`s ass about world public opinion either.

Status: offline 		I think the world feels that Russia had even less reason to invade than we had to go into Iraq.  With the way folks seem to feel about Iraq, thats b-a-d.  We may have to send in 10,000 nuns with rulers to deal with these naughty children.

We could make a powerful statement and rename Russian dressing Georgian dressing in solidarity.  Worked just great with Freedom Fries.

Russia supplies energy to Europe and has a powerful army.  Nobody you'd want to tick off.

Status: offline 		The world knows exactly what Russia is doing because they've been doing this for centuries. They are trying to re-establish their sphere of influence. They got royally pissed off when NATO promised eventual membership to Ukraine and Georgia back in April. And then Poland agreeing with the US on a missile shield was the straw that broke the camel's back.

But to think the central asian countries (who are former soviet republics) would fully support Russia in this is laughable. Because although today it is Georgia....tomorrow it could be Tajikistan or Kazakhstan. And if those countries alienate the United States and NATO....they set themselves up to be taken over by the Kremlin. China not backing this is also not a surprise. Since the Chinese do not want to start a debate about their own seperatists (Tibet) or risk damaging their relationship with the western world just so Putin can pound his chest and feel powerful.

Status: offline 		Chinese and Indian companies are still queuing up to invest in Russia's energy resources to the tune of billions of dollars so they aren't isolating Russia.

Russia's position is dishonest but so is the west's and one shouldn't consider countries with their own regions wanting independence not supporting Russia's recognition of Georgia's breakaway regions as support for the western view of things.

Status: offline 		The Russian ruling class never really gave up the thought they did not own all the independent countries when the Soviet Union broke down. To them all that happen is they ran out of money and the cost of oppression had to go in the budget.

Russian economy is not dependent on Western Europe or the United States. They now know the world has a distaste for global action and the United States is tapped out in resources. Russia has just started what they firmly believe is theirs. The only real question is when and how they go after the other countries.

I do not know about all the other countries but the Ukraine is still stuck with the Russian ruling class owning and controlling the businesses and made sure that the Ukrainian economy was forced to be dependent on them and not branch out to the West. I think needless to write they have made sure the best they can to destroy anything that is not Russian controlled.

I pray the world will help out but I am afraid that Russia will get fingers shaken at them but nothing else as the world lets them do what they want in their own backyard.

Many countries inhabiting this globe, do not need the ok of the 'greatest country on this earth', and we have to work out what we are gonna do about that.
