People should always be mindful of these words. We need not have armed revolution to bring government properly to heel. We merely need a full ballot box. We need only have an electorate who refuses to blithely accept Heinlein's aphorism that in a mature society "civil servant" is semantically equal to "civil master." We need the people in this country to read and remember the words of the Declaration, and to read and remember the Preamble to the Consitution: quote:
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. Our government exists at our pleasure. We do not exist at the government's pleasure. THAT is how our government is supposed to function--and how it will function if people step into the voting booth in November. Don't like what government is doing? Vote them out. That is your right, and if you believe those in government have behaved badly, it is your duty to vote them out of office.
