I was not aware America had a policy of forced abortions, or that people could be incarcerated merely for applying for a "permit to protest."  I was not aware that demonstrating on the Washington Mall would be met with tanks and guns a la Tienanmen Square.

To equate the state of liberty in China with the state of liberty in the US is not only odious, but is asinine and, worst of all, completely and totally incorrect.  The US is not perfect--but its lasting saving grace is that it is not China.  It is fatuous and foolish to even pretend otherwise.

You mean such as the ACLU?

Or the Libertarian Party?

Or, for that matter, the Democratic Party?

There is enough TV and film footage of American police and State guards clubbing skulls, especially black ones.

The one child one couple policy in China was a panic measure by the Chinese government when it realised the Chinese population had grown expedentially and threatened the return of famine.

As for abortions, the problem is the opposite in the US where the establishmment wants to deny women the right of an abortion.

I never said the US was as bad as China, I said don't believe the lie that you are as free as most people think they are. They can live in the dreamland that is their freedom as long as they leave the rich and powerful to be...well, rich and powerful.

And the average day of an American is not disimilar to that of a Chinese. Wake up, go to work, go home, eat and enjoy life for a couple of hours before statrting teh process again.

I fully agree with CL here. The Chinese said anyone who wanted to hold a peaceful protest needed a permit, only to incarcerate those that applied.

You need a permit to protest in London and many permits are denied and no one is allowed to protest within a mile of Parliament so you have to protest out of the way of the politicians.

It wouldn't surprise me if you were a typical wage slave that chases his own arse around to earn a living. There seems enough Americans getting kicked out of their houses by the banks who actually fucked everything up through their own greed, yet it is the poor they conned into taking loans they couldn't afford that are paying. Yeah, the poor are free to be stupid and the rich are free to exploit the poor but if that is what you call freedom, its only freedom for the rich at the expense of the poor.

How many protest permit applicants in London are arrested for the "crime" of applying for the permit?

Thats not the same as throwing someone in jail just for asking for a permit is it ?

Support a party that wants to overthrow the system in America and then come back and tell me America is free. I doubt I will hear from you because you will be a member of a chain gang.

No chain gang for my folks, MC.  No state-run orphange for me.  Not that having an FBI agent or two specifically assigned to the family is a lot of fun or anything, but I'm sitting here telling you the USA is free.  How well would I be doing in the parts of the world you think have the right idea?
