I, too, see no reason for the division of bathrooms or changing rooms.  Another holdover of puritanism, and another way of showing how kinky people can be as uptight as anyone else.

IMO if you feel you are of a certain gender/sex, use that bathroom.  Most crossdressers however do not have any desire or feeling to be another gender/sex.  If you are afraid to use the bathroom you want because of social issues, then don't.

I'm seeing more and more public restrooms indicated as "family restrooms", which are in addition to the mens restroom and the women's restroom.

Years ago I was working at our county fair and I saw two policemen with a handcuffed woman between them, all walking at a very fast clip towards the exit.  There was another officer and being a nosy git, I asked him what was up.  Just before he answered, I noticed the calves and the gait of the woman, and realized it was a man in a dress and heels.  The officer said "public indecency - he was in the women's restroom."  From the way he said it, just the fact of the guy being in the ladies' room was enough for arrest.

I heard they've invented a gravity altering device and each one of them carries one around on their person. Women are indeed crafty that way...[;)]

For anyone who feels that they don't neatly fall exactly into one of the two genders (transgendered, cross dressers, whatever else) which public restroom do you use?

When out "dressed" (other than at a fetish event or two where no one gave a damn) I've always used the women's restroom.  I never had any problems.

As a side note, there is a bar in Vancouver with "Men's" and "Women's" doors...to the same bathroom.

As another side note...the women's bathroom is almost always better decorated.

This reminds me of a story of something that happened to me when i was in the Portland, OR area....i and two friends had gone to a Romano's Macaroni Grill for dinner.  I excused myself to use the restroom, where the doors were labels Signore, and Uomini (men and women, respectively)...so i go into the door labeled Signore.  As i'm in there, i hear one, then two, then more women come into the bathroom...evidently, at Romano's, often the doors are listed incorrectly since it supposedly happened at the first Romano's...had i looked more closely, i'd have seen a stick figure sign indicating the mens and womens room...but this thread reminds me of that story quite a bit.
