i know, how tame!  loll   i dont know the rules for applying or knowing how long to leave on etc.

there's all kinds of stuff on floggers and whips etc.  but not clothespins -- are they really that benign?

do you worry if things turn purple while wearing them?  or is it just a sign to remove them?

Allondra -> RE: clothespins (8/12/2008 5:30:39 AM)

If you Google "bdsm clothespins" you'll find lots of advice.  Sexuality.org has a longish article.

I'm sure there are those here who will tell me I'm irresponsible, but I don't worry if something turns purple....  It just means there's lots of blood in the area.  When things turn white, there's a lack of bloodflow.  I suppose those white things could fall off, given enough time.  Most of the fun of clothespins for me is the removal, anyway.  They don't have to be on too long to hurt coming off (especially if they're being removed with a quirt or cane, lol).

bebeuu -> RE: clothespins (8/12/2008 5:38:09 AM)

I don't think anybody can go wrong with clothespins...lol. Every toy bag I have ever seen has at least a pack of 50 in it!! I have never timed it to see how long they have been on...but I am sure some have been on at least an hour...and I have had no ill effects from them. As with anything though...just be cautious...even a cottonball can be dangerous if kept somewhere too long, or put in the wrong place!!!

About 6 years ago I was chatting on line with a gal who was into breast bondage and I was fasinated.  What I didnt realize was the magnitude of how discolored breasts could get.....  she zoomed me a pic and I nearly passed out...
her boobs were not pink or purple...they were BLACK !!

Clothes pins are indeed mild.  But to others, they can be scorching pain.

pompeii -> RE: clothespins (8/12/2008 6:30:57 AM)

Mousetraps are better!

IvyMorgan -> RE: clothespins (8/12/2008 6:35:48 AM)

In general, as a beginner, start out with them on for no more than 15-20 minutes, and build it up.

Expect little cuts (especially if they're removed with hitty things)

Also, expect me to go all gooey *smiles*

I'm a clothes pin wuss though, and whilst I can wear them for an hour, I'm not a happy bunny at the end of that.  Ten minutes, or one orgasm, is usually my limit.

10 minutes is plenty of time to get the desired effect.

If you bind any body part to the point of having the skin turn purple it indicates a restriction or loss of blood flow to the area (ischemia). In the worst case necrosis can set in and the damage is permanent. There is a lot of debate as to how long it takes for necrosis to start but it is a possibility. In my experience if you leave clothespins on for 15 or 20 minutes you'll be fine. That is also plenty of time to make removal eqauly unpleasant.

As to intensity, think of them like a bee sting. One might hurt a little....ten hurt a lot...and one hundred will have you writihing in pain. Clothespins are sort of like that. Put a lot of them on, in sensitive spots, remove them very quickly and it will hurt...and hurt a LOT.

A lingering image of clothespins that I have is of the front of a male sub covered with a fine line net with maybe 300 pins on him. Each pin was clipped on through the net so that when the net was pulled off it would pull the pin off at the same time. He fainted from the pain and the enddorphine rush when the net was ripped off and the 300 pins came off at virtually the same instant.

clothespins are great. don't bother with any that are "specially made" for bdsm, it's not worth the extra money. Just a pack of 50-100 clothespins from wal-mart will do. We like combining clothespins with wax play. I've had them on for 30 minutes at the longest, with no ill effects. The trick is to wear them long enough to feel used to them... then when your top takes them off, it'll be really intense. If you take them off while they're still hurting, it won't be such a shock. Either way, it's fun.

nhite -> RE: clothespins (8/12/2008 6:31:37 PM)

seems like everyone uses them for how they feel in being removed;  color me silly but i felt they had enough sensation to them going on -- now i was biased because i have a friend who likes to pinch and i was very much missing their company

jim64 -> RE: clothespins (8/12/2008 10:30:07 PM)

Have had them left on for over an hour. Yes, coming off is the fun part. (mostly nips and cbt)

It all depends upon....
  • Where the clothes pins are attached
  • How strong they are
  • For how long.
  • Your partners physical body (some people have crappy circulation, some people have super great circulation and blood supply to their body parts).

There's probally something I'm not thinking about here too... such as what the clothes pins are made out of.  Plastic verse wood.  The Quality of construction..

Basically just think about all the Variables involved...

Generally speaking 15 minutes is pretty safe.  Depends upon where (other factors) for 30 minutes or a little longer.

It's not something to leave on for hours upon hours...  I'm certain somebody has made that friggen mistake out of their own ignorance.

If it turns purple or blue, that means the blood cells have given up their oxygen. It's as good as being white. If cells are not receiving oxygen, they will eventually die.

Bstardsbitch -> RE: clothespins (8/13/2008 9:01:24 AM)

Mousetraps??....mousetraps??.
I quite like pain, but HATE to have clothes pegs cropped or caned from me.
Mousetraps??
You're all crazy I tell ya [:D]

DesFIP -> RE: clothespins (8/13/2008 11:46:49 AM)

Clothespins tame? I can't tolerate them at all. But generally the rules for clamps are 15-20 minutes and then removal while the sub whimpers or threatens revenge.

leakylee -> RE: clothespins (8/13/2008 2:08:27 PM)

tame??

we did a clothes pin dress on a friend of mine Saturday night. we managed to get 246 on her before we ripped them all off. it is all in the application..hehe..

Turning purple means arteries have burst, which is generally bad, except that it's a small area in an organ that has a high regeneration rate.  I've had clothespins on my nipples (although I'm a man, not a woman) for a couple of hours before -- they hurt like ALL HELL when my partner pulled them off (and she even did it gently), and they were very sore for about a day; but, the next morning, you wouldn't have even known.
You're best bet is to experiment in small doses on small areas, and gradually work your way up to longer periods and larger effective areas -- that way, you know your limits and have a significantly lower risk of serious damage.

It's pretty self-explanatory. It helps that the two are pretty much our favorite things to do, as well. The same could be said about clothespins and bondage, stuff like that.
