The cruxt of the issue is how reasonable is your HOA.
Some HOA's have good folks running them, others have folks who turn into littletyrants because they have no expeiece with weilding power and thus swing that sword hard and alot at evey little twig.

Get a good HOA and you're likely to enjoy it, get a bad one and you'll be looking to sell the condo in no time.

Personally I prefer a house, but that's just me.

**Fast reply**

I can't remember the name of the comedian that did the whole skit on them being exactly what the name suggests a good way to con you out of dough.  Might have been Carlin.

Anyways, I have always looked at condos as just glorified overpriced apartments.  After owning some multi-unit buildings, and living in them, I can say I will never go back to living in a multi-family dwelling.  I have issues with the idea of living in a subdivision, simply because of the binders they put in place (what kind of fence you can have, decks, roofing, colors, etc...).

Don't get me wrong I see how some folks would be happier not having to deal with issues that are covered by belonging to an association... it just isn't for me.

I'm on the HOA and I still don't like condo living!  Blech!

But I will say if you live in a condo or are thinking about it, getting involved in the HOA is very important (and generally a big fucking headache).
