I saw it last night and it was awesome! You know you belong here when you enjoy the interrogation scenes a bit too much.[&o]
Heath Ledger was just dazzling, it’s terrible he died just when he had finally proven himself. But you’ve got to wonder, how does becoming immersed in this kind of role affect your mind? - You must have to go to a dark place.
Anyway back on topic, there was one scene I enjoyed in particular, which I will attempt to describe, but I’m not a very good writer - The joker was in an interrogation room, sitting on the floor leaning on a wall, being minded by a policeman standing at the door. He started antagonising the cop, who kept trying to ignore him and control himself, until finally he couldn’t take it anymore. He walked over to the joker, stood over him and carefully rolled up his sleeves. The joker looked up at him and the policeman slowly said ‘I know you’re going to enjoy this, but I’m going to have to try to enjoy it even more.’

Ironically daddy thought that the role might of fucked with his mind too.

Really? My favorite scene was "crunch time" on the ferry. When the convict did what he did, the theatre I was in (and IMAX, to boot) erupted in cheers!

The only bit I thought that was a bit overdone, (and I know how strange that sounds, considering) was the "Shane"-like scene at the very end.

Oh, and did anyone else notice Anthony Michael Hall, as the news anchor during the scene where the underling was going to expose Batman? That was pretty weird....

This???  This is supposed to be worthy of a posthumous Oscar?  It was a nasal Mickey Knox, with twitches, and a little tongue action stolen from a freaking Harry Potter movie.  Good not great.

Heretic,

Yeah, I agree on that point. The Joker was well done this time, but most of it seems to have come from the page, and not from Ledger. The place where this movie really excels, is in the screenplay. THAT is worthy of a nomination, at least. Other places where it might be a contender:

Cinematography
Editing
Sound
Art Design
Best Direction

I just don't see the Academy giving the Oscars for best actor/actress or best picture to a comic book movie. They heaped awards onto Star Wars... but they didn't give it best picture that year... (can you remember, without checking, which one did?) Pretty telling, don't you agree?

Smiles* Ok.. Ok.. So, I finally caved and saw this the other day.. Heath Ledger I've always been a fan of in the girly feel good films..and Christian Bale is just.. * pauses to take a deeeep breath* HOT.
But, as far as the role of the Joker, frankly, after watching the film, I can see why Heath Ledger died. It takes a serious dedication to Method Acting, to pull off a role like that... Unfortunately, Heath Ledger's previous roles haven't been all that *dark*.. dramatic, yes. Wonderful, yes.. but it takes a certain mindset to be able to understand that inner dark space.. Not to mention the added pressure of topping Jack Nicholson's version, the hype surrounding the film, etc.. it's enough to make anyone go crazy. Method acting is difficult, can you imagine attempting to bring yourself out of that dark space.. the mindset of a truly psychotic killer without rhyme or reason, and telling yourself it's just a film?
So yes, in my opinion, the role killed him.
I was strangely reminded of an early Ben Foster (Bang Bang You're Dead) .. when I saw Ledger's performance..the only difference being while Foster seems to thrive in playing roles that are alternative, dark, and psychotic.. not everyone is made for such roles.
Overall, I give this movie 2 snaps and a hip shake~~~!
