hisannabelle -> devastating. (8/2/2008 2:49:33 PM)

in my group last week the guy who runs it was just rambling on about how far the world has come in terms of homophobia. personally, i just have a hard time seeing it. i'm sick and tired of people i know...of anyone, for that matter...dying for senseless reasons.

It's tragic. Sometimes I think the human race is getting better, sometimes not.

Huyton has always been an unsafe area, a place where attacks occur for senseless reasons, quite possibly a reflection on the minority of uneducated, small minded idiots that live there. People that can see no further than the streets they tramp. They may be a minority, but they are the majority in terms of offence to others. If it wasn't gay, it would be black, or asian, or advantaged or whatever  these crud choose to spend their hate on.Their target is what ever is different to what they are at the time. They do what they do, because they can, their minds can see no further than the moment.

Have we advanced, well, some of us have, but others not, but then being confined to an area through poverty,lack of prospect, ambition and future, can have a detrimental affect on many. Perhaps these people, the lad's assailants expect to live until they die, a prospect which may come at any time given the life they lead.

Sad, isn't it ?

You need to compare the actions of a few with the actions of many. As tragic as the death of the young lad in Liverpool was, generally things in the UK have improved tremendously.

I dunno... I have friends in Denver I try to go back and see every couple of years. There are also a couple in Ft. Collins, up near the WY boarder... Although I don't usually get a chance to visit long in F.C., I take a northern loop to that part of the state. By the time I hit Colorado, it's close to sunset. If the roads have been clear, and I've made good time, I take a side trip up to Laramie. There's a fence just outside of town I usually leave some flowers, or a card, or a note at...

Somehow, whenever I do that, it seems to me we all have a long, long way to go...

Termyn8or -> RE: devastating. (8/2/2008 8:42:08 PM)

Fagbashers are such because they are afraid of those desires in themselves. I have living proof in this city and can probably get some very interesting video.

Religion causes most of this shit, it is not hard to figure out. Stupidity causes the rest.

T

PS, you think I am full of shit, answer me this, how come fagbashers do not beat up lesbians ?

slvemike4u -> RE: devastating. (8/2/2008 8:51:39 PM)

Psychology should not be practiced by layman,I have no clue as to the motivation behind heinous acts like this ,beyond garden variety hate....And for that I am grateful..who would want to be able to understand such irrational fear

NumberSix -> RE: devastating. (8/2/2008 8:54:48 PM)

Because psychologists know what the fuckin' gizmo is?  Is that the deal?

Carl Jung

Had you only stopped there..............

How does that make you feel?

bipolarber -> RE: devastating. (8/2/2008 8:59:39 PM)

Termy,

Because the fagbashers know the lesbians will beat the fucking crap out of them if they lose the element of surprise?  ;)

Termyn8or -> RE: devastating. (8/2/2008 9:06:18 PM)

bipol, there pretty much ain't no element of sirprise is there ?

slv, I totally disagree with that statement. EVERYONE should understand and practice psychology, especially on themselves.

bipolarber -> RE: devastating. (8/2/2008 9:33:56 PM)

Yeah, but which stripe of psychology, Term?
Freudian? Jungian archtypes? Skinnarian behavior? Maslow's heierarchy of needs? Maybe more "fringe" forms of psychology, like Willhelim Reich, or that crap that L. Ron Hubbard made up for his bar room bet with Robert Heinlien? EST, perhaps? Taoist meditation?...

(I could go on, but I have the feeling it would start sounding like the Monty Python "Cheese Shop" sketch...)

Believe me, I've gone through general classes on psych, and tried religions both traditional and "out there"... I've yet to find anything that made me feel as happy as just having someone in my life whom I considered an "intimate partner" both physically, and emotionally.

Hell, just reading Kurt Vonnegut gave me more insight to leading a happy life than Jung ever did.

Different answers for different people, I guess.

JulieorSarah -> RE: devastating. (8/2/2008 11:18:28 PM)

'anything' bashers ... fear is what does it, fear of something they don't understand, or something they feel will attack their way of life.

Spanish inquistion of the 1500s and 1600s was 'bashing, maiming, torturing, murdering' anyone who believed anything but Roman Catholocism or those that ran the Church at the time.

French revolution bashed the aristocracy, and anyone against the republic or those running the the republic

Nazi germany it was anything non Aryan.

McCarthyism was against communism ...

Currently it's a religious, cultural group tainted with the label of terrorism ...

the shame is that there are opportunistic ... (words do not describe) creatures ... who use this fear(and ignorance) and point a finger at an enemy or a competitor and say to the appropriate audience, he/she/they are not catholic, they are an aristoctrat, not a true aryan, they are a communist, gay, muslim/terrorist, what ever the 'prosprective bashee is or is not' and the fear in the audience remove the enemy or competitor.  So much for free enterprise.

stepping down yet again from the soap box ...

Homophobia my diminish, but it will be replaced by something else.  Think of the fear, ignorance, and mis information that surrounds bdsm.  Be careful you could be the next bashee ...

Humans are not a tolerant species by nature. and each generation has to learn it allover again
