I just don't see Stevie Wonder as #1  (no pun intended).

        Nasty woman?

Nice to see Floyd on the list, but too much good stuff is ignored by this guys formula.

As far as I'm concerned the list was a joke the moment George Michael made it...

shivermetimbers -> RE: The top 20 albums of all time (for real)....... (7/30/2008 9:15:55 PM)

Twenty percent of the greatest albums ever done by Led Zeppelin?  Give me a break.  Stevie Wonder number one? Must have won the "best of blind" category.  Best of anything?  Puhhhhleeeze.

I agree with you on how much that album sucked, Mike.  But you're older than I am, so I know you remember how popular it was.  LOL.  I also know that there are people on these boards that probably bought it.  [:D]

Did anybody bother to even read the article?  Or just scan the list of 20 and start whining because their personal favorites weren't #1?

proudsub -> RE: The top 20 albums of all time (for real)....... (7/30/2008 9:26:30 PM)

Why isn't Elvis on the list?

Saveboy I have made many decisions in life I would like a mulligan on.I have gone thru whole phases I would rather not have.....what I have never had to regret was having lousy taste in music ...and George Michael with or with out his buddies from Wham definately qualified as bad taste...
BTW Shivermetimbers The Mighty Zeppelin at 20 % sounds about right to me
Just my opinion's

Far enough to see that the system gave weight to Grammy Awards.

Like I said, I agree with you on George Michael and Wham.  But everyone has a few songs they are embarrassed to admit that they like.  I can think of quite a few that I enjoyed privately that would have led to a serious ass-kicking had my buddies found out.  [:D]

LOL.  Nope, not a Celine fan or even a fan of the Miami Sound Machine.

Edited to add:

Oh wait, Gloria Estefan is the Miami Sound Machine.  She sucks too.

Aileen even taking into account this is Slaveboy we are talking about...that was just wrong....sadism should only be taken so far!

Then I'm sure it was this popular group...

Exactly... it wasn't a 'Favorites' list, so complaining that Stevie Wonder got a higher ranking than some album which never won a Grammy, sort of misses the point.

As the author said, if someone has a rational argument that some other factors should have gone into the formula, instead of sales, longevity, and critical acclaim, put them forward.

I personally don't care about those factors or Top 20 lists, but if one is making a list, those are as useful as anything else I could have come up with.   And on those factors, Stevie is clearly ahead... that album was lionized by critics in jazz, rock, soul, and damn near everyone else... most of the others were more genre specific.

My top 20 favorites list would be based on virtuosity, lyrics, and influence on later musicians, and would therefor probably be meaningful to very few people. [;)]

And at least this one was more objective than the moron a few weeks ago whose Yahoo Greatest Heavy Metal list included Thin Lizzy, because 'how could you not love a band who wrote Whiskey In The Jar?'..[8|]
