We just had a nice little earthquake here in SoCal... was preliminarily judged at 5.8.

Was fun, but i still prefer the rides at 6 Flags Magic Mountain

As long as you and the family are ok.  You had Me scared there for a minute.

ownedgirlie -> RE: Earthquake in California (7/29/2008 12:14:04 PM)

Oh those are fun!  I hope nothing was damaged and all are well.  I'm one of those dorks who actually thinks earthquakes are fun (up to a point...heh).

darchChylde -> RE: Earthquake in California (7/29/2008 12:18:39 PM)

i'm still trying to get through to Ma'am, was at least able to leave a message on Her voicemail... the news has said that there were no reports of injuries or any real damage; i'm not too worried about Her but still want to be sure from Her own lips.  Was online with my sister submissive and she's ok though

was funny, at first i thought it was the upstairs neighbors

Grabbed my 'floor warden' vest and my bottle of scotch but it was over before I had the chance to use either. beth said the chandeliers shook a little and the dogs went a bit nuts, but no harm/no foul.

Glad you guys are alright.  I just spoke with my boy in LA and he reports one object falling off a shelf, no other damage.  I asked him if he felt a jolt and he said the ground felt "wobbly".  Stay safe, keep your emergency kit stocked and be prepared for those aftershocks.

I'm glad you are all okay!  Earthquakes can be fun if they are the rolling kind, but the jerky one's can be scary!  In the 70's I was able to watch a rolling one in a school yard across the street.  Seeing the ground rising and falling like green waves was amazing.  But those jerky one's... well the out of towners tend to pack up as soon as they can and move home!  That was pretty funny to watch too! hehe

I envy you all that live there, as I miss home and I would take an earthquake, rolling or jerky over a tornado, anyday!  I hope the after shocks don't drive you batty!

Got in touch with rest of the Family finally, we're all ok... thanks for everyone's concern

daddysblondie -> RE: Earthquake in California (7/29/2008 2:17:01 PM)

I've never been bothered by earthquakes either. always laughed at family members that got scared by them. This one today scared me a little and had me running for a safe spot in the house.

Glad to hear everyone else out here seems to have fared well...

Shadow-tiger -> RE: Earthquake in California (7/29/2008 2:56:09 PM)

I love the ones where you get the rolling ground effect. Good to hear everyone in the general vicinity is alright.

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: Earthquake in California (7/29/2008 3:13:11 PM)

it wasnt an earthquake...it was peggy bundy's mother visiting cali.

seeksfemslave -> RE: Earthquake in California (7/29/2008 3:20:43 PM)

Amazin' that some appear to think that earthquakes "can be fun"
Wait 'til the biggie strikes and you will see what I mean.

pahunkboy -> RE: Earthquake in California (7/29/2008 3:34:43 PM)

"earthquake" + "California" = a standard day.

Politesub53 -> RE: Earthquake in California (7/29/2008 3:44:10 PM)

The BBC website had two rather unfortunate headlines, one above the other.

Quake rocks southern California
US consumer outlook still shaky  You couldnt make it up could you.

Merc, I'm a floor warden too.  LOL
Didn't bother with that vest - they didn't even evacuate our building.  But we are on rollers and that felt horrible!

being an l.a. native, i have lived through too many quakes to count.
so yes, when there aren't horrific injuries and deaths....we see these as "fun."
(i knew people who were severely injured in northridge, and a friend lost the baby she was carrying.
i am not making light of the devastation.)

was in my car this morning. thought i was being rear ended, until i looked in my mirrors and out my windows and saw everyone shaking like crazy.

earthquakes, mudslides, fires and riots. those are our seasons.
it beats hurricanes, tornadoes and snow!!!

Yeah, well that's what I get for not being in the office the day that vote was taken. I should have claimed 'executive privilege' but I found out they were going to have 'krispy-kreme' donuts at the meeting so I went.

We didn't evacuate either, but I had to grab the vest - it's what I use to wrap the bottle of scotch, which, as any good 'floor warden' knows is an essential part of any 'emergency kit'. [8D]

LadyPact -> RE: Earthquake in California (7/29/2008 5:20:01 PM)

I'm just glad everyone's ok.

When I get Myself out to CA next year, you experienced earthquake folks will have to teach Me a thing or two.

TheHeretic -> RE: Earthquake in California (7/29/2008 5:53:54 PM)

I had run out to grab some lunch, and missed it completely in the car.  The wife was down in LA and she got a decent ride.  The failure of the cell phone system needs to be a wake-up call though.  If this had been a big nasty, all the folks calling to ask if their friends felt it, would have kept others from getting through to emergency services.
