Stevens has been corrupt for a lot longer than the last 15 years. Kind of amazing that the investigation got this far.

He's going away for awhile.  It's good to see that justice is going to be served.

Political bribes, pork barrel politics and pet projects, home renovations, bigger vehicles, his son's company profiting, people who bribed him plea bargaining in exchange for evidence.  Sounds like a special investigation report with a made for TV movie in the makings.

He is an old guy though, 84?  Maybe he will be under house arrest.

At least this explains why, as the Governor of Alaska, he was so hot for the Fed to open up AWAR to being raped... The oil companies must've been set to line his pockets to the hilt for the privlidge to fuck over that much virgin wilderness.

Isn't Stevens the one that tried to bilk taxpayers with the "bridge to nowhere"?

And threatened to quit the Senate when the funds were diverted to Katrina recovery efforts.

Well to be fair, he isn't the only one in the Senate that is fond of pork barrel projects.  Robert Byrd also attacked the Katrina proposal, because he is the poster child of pork barrel projects.  Stevens support of drilling in ANWR was hardly unusual.  The majority of Alaskan citizens support the idea.  After all, they stand to receive extra money on their monthly check from the oil industry.

For those on the Left that are cheering about this, you do realize that Stevens is one of the most moderate Republicans in the Senate?  He's been pro-choice, supportive of gay rights, and largely libertarian in his thinking on social issues.

m'kay, whatever.  I'm not a resident of Alaska, but I knew they got a check and that they stood to get more money from the drilling.  It doesn't change anything about what I wrote.

So people should overlook corruption ?  Politicians world wide, seem to be in it for themselves these days.

Ah yes, a class act all the way. Well, at least he can kiss his senate career goodbye, I hope.

And slaveboy, you're right about Byrd.

No we shouldn't overlook; I just read a few of the comments from posters that seemed gleeful about this.  The man has only been indicted; he hasn't been convicted.  Some of the things that many people pointed out here are not criminal.  You'll be hard pressed to find a Congressman that isn't trying to bring goodies home to his constituents.

He was having his own home worked on that's a far cry from helping the people of Alaska.

I cheer when any corrupt politician gets caught and is indicted.  I missed his I'm innocent speech, I'm sure he had one.  Just like the guy from CA, see I forgot his name all ready gave his I'm innocent speech all the way to jail
