Unless there is some strange kink I am unaware of, cross stitching is more commonly known as needlepoint. Its a craft, not a kink

Actually, cross stitching is a different form of embroidery than needlepoint - people get the two confused, sort of like mixing up knitting and crocheting.

But yes...cross stitch is a form of embroidery wher you embroider a series of X's on fabric that make up the design.

I do counted... but i like how it looks better, evne if my fish are always sightly lopsided

IMO Counted is easier then the printed ones, it makes a nicer looking picture also. I find it very relaxing.

Counted cross stiching, is one of those things where i have a beautiful gift, have never made mistakes,nothing lopsided, absolute perfection, but i demand it to be that way, not only on the surface..where i make sure to always cross over in one direction for the first stitch..
/ / / / / / / / / <~~~~~~ like that.

and then crossing back over to the other side for the oposite stitch...making everything crisp and uniform and perfect.

Also, i am one of those that spend as much time, looking at the backside, as i do on the front, if done correctly all you will ever see is various colored even lines flowing down the back. Some people will skip around on the back, leaving lil thread trails all over back there, but ever since i first learned to cross stitch, the teacher that gave me my lesson, informed me that its the back of the cross stitch piece that proves how talented the artist work is.

So yeah, i am anal like that. hehe

Yup, definitely. I never would have gotten blue honors in 4H with printed ones (and yes, I did enter counted cross stitch pictures for 4H - three years in a row, and still have 2 of the 3 pictures I did - gave the other one to my grandma). I've kind of gotten out of the habit of doing it though. I've been too busy with dogs, cats, replicants, candle making, and now we have puppies on the way *yay*

now - that is just sick - and kind of hot in the mind.

as far as counted cross stitch - i had to give it up when i had um's - didn't get enough time to concentrate on the graphs to get it right - so i took up quilting which is more pick-up and put-down friendly.

I also do counted....the stamped (pre-printed) is cheating, IMHO. I did one for my brother in law of a pair of wolves that took me almost 2 years, working on it everyday for about 8 hours (while at work). Got it professionally framed (180.00...OUCH!) and almost didn't give it to him because it was absolutely beautiful.

One thing about the backs......I'm all over the place when I stich, I do it in groups of the same color instead of line by line...but it's also the first place I look when someone shows one of their pieces. I used to be anal about that, but once I started doing the large projects, I got a little lazy about it. My next project is a koala for my mother, it's about a 10x12 stitched area, and EVERY stitch on the pattern is done.....there's nothing left of the cloth showing...like my wolves were.

Also, for those of you die hard stitchers, there's a site called patterns online that you can go to, purchase patterns, and then download them straight from your computer. Once you buy them, they are always available to you. I hate buying kits, because I have probably 95% of the threads already, this way, you only pay for the pattern.....and they are pretty reasonable.

I do like the tapestry/cross stitch charts that you can make by grabbing a photo or drawing your own design then getting a printer to transpose the image.
OK its not as hard core as counting but the challenge is to match up the delicate gradients of colours you get with this type of print. The comercial prints never seem to look that good.
I had a black and white pic of my parents wearing their honeymoon clothes (50s era and both movie star good looking) transposed onto silk and embroidered around the edges. (still unfinished 8 years later)
My problem is finishing a project.

Sorry this isn't a kinky post, will it edge it up abit if I mention that I often knit naked?

i reckon in a pinch, i'd be a good surgeons assistant. between quilting and cross stitching i sew a damn fine line, lol!

i envy you statesiders. though i've got a massive collection of threads, the cost of materials over here has helped me keep my addictions to just under the level of spiraling out of control. threads you pay 25 cents a skein for are over a dollar here usually. my quilting fabrics cost on average $18/metre.

think of me next time you go fabric fondling.

and murphy's law, now that i have the money to get materials again, i haven't got the time/energy

hehe - i understand about the surgeons assistant thing - i was scrubbed in a case and the surgeon asked me if i sewed - he meant on humans - i said yes, meaning cloth, so i helped sew the patient up. and if i say so, i did a much better job than the doctor. Of course i have been watching doctors sew patients up for years, so i knew what i was doing. I just had never actually done it before.

and the doc said i did a better job than him - of course, i wasn't in a hurry like him. I did a nice job.

Me too I have at least litterally 200+ projects all in various stages of being done started or contimplated, and I litterally gace away four huge boxes of material , that I'd ammased through the years intending to do a project or another and just got sick of it so I gave it away. There was proably all told about 50 yards of material mostly in one yard incremants. since I was going to do baby blankets.

And I still have about 50 or 60 more yards of cotton prints stashed away somewhere. by time I get all the shit together I want to give away the kids program at the rec center here will probably have 50 huge boxes of stuff.

i've seen pictures of the other lips and my reaction was similar to when you see boys hit in the same region ... raises all sorts of questions about hygiene ... let alone other stuff....
