empuser999 -> Goodbye Internet?! (7/25/2008 7:10:29 PM)

I don't know if I can post links or not. But here's the basics: Major carriers of the internet (ISPs) in Canada (as a testing ground) are planning on releasing a new type of internet and tearing down the old one as we know it.

Nicknamed 'Internet2' the major idea is to get the internet like a cable or satelite package. Websites (aka companies) like television channels, will be offered in the hundreds at monthly rates. Sounds great to keep your kids out of trouble and monitor the pedo crowd. However, surfing outside your 'paid zone' will be charged for in some way.

This is horribly bad for everybody on the internet who is not 'Facebook', 'Ebay' or 'Google' - for them and their friends it's business as usual.

But what happens to the alternative energy people? the free thinkers? the alternative media? - well when you rack up 'roaming fees' to get to their sites... their popularity will dwindle and they will die out.

NOT TO MENTION!! how are they going to properly charge for 'Internet2' usage? Big Brother net monitoring of course - they need to know where you go and how long you stay to get cash for it by the minute don't they?! So Collarme and all the other naughty sites you visit end up on your internet bill, won't that be nice.

No more 'Net-Neutrality' unless we fight this tooth and nail.

Red herring, just like the nafta superhighway and the amero and the US post office getting money every time you send an email.

But if you are hearing shit like this, keep your eyes open, they are distracting you. What are they distracting you from ?

Oh, for fucks sake.

Internet2 has nothing to do with the net-neutrality chicken little bullshit that ignorant people regularly squawk about.  Get your facts straight and stop spreading nonsense rumors.

It's been my fondest wish for a while now that there be two internets...one for people who aren't really 'net savvy and unwittingly contribute to the spread of viruses, etc. and another for those who have a clue!   Weeeeeee! [sm=yahoo.gif]

If only that's what it was all about.

So, we should just quarantine all AOL users, pretty much? I have no problems with that.

Me and my partners are working on Internet3, then you're all going to be fucked mwahahaha[8|]

Stage one will be to rename Internet3 InternetFree this will give the impression it is a free service that we will later blame on a spelling error but by that time you would have all paid me squillions of do lars.[8|]

Believe what you want to believe - I've managed to spend several hundred hours researching related information. This 'internet 2' thing just sprang up quite suddenly on me.

Then again changes to my own ISP suggest that they are re arranging their paystructure to support these changes.

Don't get me started on the 'Nafta Super Highway' aka 'The Trans Texas Corridor' get your head out of the sand - I could go on name calling too if I wanted to, but I don't have to:

Don't prove me wrong - I don't care... prove Lou Dobbs from CNN wrong - then YOU can squawk all you want! You don't buy or force people out of their land for a highway that isn't going to be built. But if you want to hear nothing about it, keep watching Fox.

97% of the those who called in at the end of the segment of CNN news (youtube link above) voted that 'Yes, Presidential Candidates should be forced to take a political stance regarding the NAU and the TTC' (paraphrase - watch it for the exact wording).

Either way back to Internet2 - there's a good chance that this particular 'go' at it may fail. Simply because the voice in Canada is growing daily.

Just remember before you immitate the first two replies:

“There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance—that principle is contempt prior to investigation.”
