I won't speak so much for fetish parties, as they aren't My thing. As for actual play parties, I really don't mind the darkened lighting. A lot of folks prefer a little less light to get into the proper head space. Any part of the atmosphere that encourages that is a good thing.

the club you attend has a different set of rules than the ones i have been to. the one in Dallas called sanctuary had a well lit dungeon and rules as to how to approach others.the one in Atlanta has reduced lighting when play starts and similar rules on conduct. as far as the type of gathering some are just demo or informational. then there are the ones that involve play.

I may have been one of the "ten guys" off to the side but bothering a Domme needlessly isn't a desire of mine. I may be one of the straws in the haystack and she may be the needle but if she isn't interested in me, what's the use in bothering her? Asking for her attention once maybe twice at an appropriate time shouldn't be a bother but incessant requests i will avoid as well even if she looks to be the most desirable woman there. Lighting...helps only to see who you are talking with or scening with. I am adding that I contacted a woman about two years ago. We spent time together but lost contact for a while. She showed renewed interest and contacted me. It's really nice that she did, I was encouraged and she made me feel good about it. Ok, maybe it's not all on topic but those ten guys on the side aren't always bad guys either.

But I DO think they have either bad manners or a certain amount of social ineptitude. In my case, the situation has always been that I'm talking to/playing with my personal submissive or a friend, and a bunch of random guys who want to butt in hover close by, trying to get my attention. Sometimes they'll just drop to their knees in front of me or try to wedge themselve between me and whoever I'm with. Not cool. The way I see it, if I'm otherwise engaged and there's ALREADY some other guy waiting to ask if he can touch my feet or something, why would ANOTHER nine of them get in line? I'm not a bank teller, I'm a party-goer trying to enjoy a conversation or some play: what's with the queuing up and interrupting? Also, remember that what was one or two requests for you isn't the same for the domme. There are probably another 30 guys who think that they're not bothering her by coming over once or twice.
