SweetSlice -> Learning to Cut... (7/25/2008 6:53:40 AM)

We don't have anyplace to learn cutting around here. I happened to see it being done, and see the cuttings afterwards, at a fetish event in another state, and I've been thinking about it ever since. I have someone that I'd like to do designs on, but I've never done this before, and I don't want to -practice- on a person.

I don't cut myself, and frankly, I'm not a masochist -- I just don't get into pain that much, so I don't think that cutting designs in myself would help much (I -have- cut myself with one of the disposable scalpels I was told would be best by the person at the event who did the cuttings, to see what it would feel like).

My question is -- if you don't want to practice on people, and you don't have anyone to train you, HOW can you learn cutting, and what do you practice on?

I have heard of people practising on fruit, such as a peach.

When i saw a demonstration done, the Woman doing it recommended tomatoes, since they have a skin with squishy red stuff underneath (okay, i added the squishy red stuff part).

When practicing cutting on a person, start on broad surfaces with some "meat" to them- the sides of the thighs, breasts, upper arms. Trace at first with the scalpel, just barely touching the skin. Then try again with a little more pressure as you feel comfortable. Do a short line, then wait a few seconds to see how the skin reacts- with extremely fine cuts, it often takes a few seconds for blood to come up to the surface, so you don't want to go over it again thinking that you didn't even break the skin, when in fact you did.

If you can't have someone show you how to do it, and you don't want to practice on a person, you really can't *learn* it, IMO...

I got my set of scalpels, and I practiced on everything... fruit (particularly banana peels, ripe peaches, tomatoes), roasting chickens, pork, potatoes (great for learning curve techniques). I practiced with different blade shapes and paid attention to how the flesh moved/cut under different pressures. Using meat (especially meat like roasts that has a layer of fat, etc., is a good choice.

I have a small scar on my hand from a cut I got at work...it bled bad, didn't hurt so much, as it was a pain in the butt  to keep clean with ster-strips on it. Now every time I look at that still pinkish with a white line in the middle mark, I know that when I make a lifetime commitment to someone I want him to cut his initials into me...maybe the hip. . . but I am also curious as to where one would learn that...

Cutting is something Mistress does on me that i absolutely love.

As others have said, practice on fruit/veggies to get a feel for how the blade moves/how much pressure You need to apply.  With Her knives it takes very little pressure, She keeps them razor sharp!

If You are not using a fresh out of the package disposable scalpel be extremely attentive to making sure the blade is sterile, as well as making sure the skin is clean prior to cutting.

Mistress' favorite place to cut on me is my tush lol.  She's cut designs as well as "messages" there.  She's even perfected cutting words "backwards" so they can be read in a mirror.  Imagine seeing "bad bad girl pj" carved into your tush... a long lasting reminder of an incident that She found most displeasing.

Typically the cuts are more like scrapings, very shallow and the marks last a couple of weeks at most.  The above mentioned message was a bit deeper and lasted quite a few months (as very faint "scars", that DID go away)...  and yes, it was quite effective in getting through my thick skull NOT to do *that* again.

She does have photos of several of the cuttings and would most likely share them if You asked; as well as answering any other questions You may have about it.

Good luck :)

When nurses learn to suture, we use pigs feet. They have skin and dermis and correspond to human skin.  I would think the same thinking would apply to learning to cut.  Just remember its easier to cut deeper, than to uncut! [:D]

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...............................yummy.   all the suggestions thus far have been good ones. Keep in mind the idea is to cut shallow and more often if you want something more permanant.  Deep cuts are not the way to go.  Ensure your blades are always sharp.  I can and would teach, however practice on fruit make perfect in my opinion.  I guarantee if you don't live near me, someone in your area knows good techniques.

Heh.... funny that i have no problem watching my own blood spill all over the place, but the prospect of facing the "we use EVERY part of the pig!" section at the local grocery store has me a mite bit queasy [:D]
