i love not having a car and i've been without one for 3yrs now. Chicago has decent public transportation that runs 24/7 on most bus and train routes. i don't have to fight for parking spaces in the wintertime or drive around the block to find parking at/near venues on the northside (which parking is non-exsistent compared to where i live). no insurance, city vehicle sticker etc to pay. one bus ride can take me to the beach, museum or hospital and in the opposite direction i can fly out of the airport. plus, public transportation is the best way to see all parts of Chicago.
