The Dark Knight is amazing and takes more than one viewing to absorb the dazzling visuals on the screen.  I am very happy with Hellboy 2 this summer, the sequel is dark and monstrous and also very humorous.  Sandman  on the big screen would be wonderful, if all the legalities and financial arrangements could be worked through.

Level -> RE: The Watchmen (7/21/2008 5:32:00 PM)

I imagine Gaiman would not be an obstacle to a Sandman film being done, as long as it didn't deviate from what he created too much.

A good version of Garth Ennis' Preacher would be welcome, too. Who would play Arseface, though?

Thadius -> RE: The Watchmen (7/21/2008 5:48:53 PM)

Here's a little more Watchmen for those that don't know who they are....

Saw Dark Knight yesterday...wow! Heath Ledger as "the joker" was amazing. Dark, twisted, sad, broken, troubled, provocative...just amazing. Probably some of these attributes were very much his "real" life, and that is why he is no longer with us..

I'm still unsure of the Watchmen movie, from the trailers. Okay, the character design looks great, but the feel of it seems off. The trailers have that music-video/summer action blockbuster look to the editing which just doesn't suit the material. Then again, perhaps that's just standard trailer making and the film itself will be good. I hope so, anyway.

Now if someone will just make films for Global Frequency, Transmetropolitan and DMZ, then I'll be happy.

Yeah, I'm afraid there might be a cheese factor in the Watchmen flick. Hope I'm wrong.

Last I saw (and just re-googled to make sure I wasn't confused), HBO picked up rights and had started production on it as a series of 1 hour episodes (1 ep per issue). Sadly, looks like no news since the end of '06 on state of the production. IMDB shows a preacher tv series, but details are pro account only, promising date though.

As for the gaiman/sandman thread, I was saddened when things went kaput on the gilliam directed Good Omens awhile back.

Leepus -> RE: The Watchmen (7/21/2008 9:11:19 PM)

I have great hope for the watchmen. Which generally mean, I'll be let down horribly.
As for GF, there was a pilot for tv done, the most unaired pilot ever i believe. Absolutely amazing (or so I hear, since I'd never condone downloading or watching any content not released or commercially available).

As for transmet, at wizard world Mr. Ellis had a side splitting anecdote about it being considered at one point, with patrick stewart involved. Something having to do with killing rabbits and not punching prince charles in the face.

Thadius -> RE: The Watchmen (7/21/2008 9:13:35 PM)

The G4tv link I posted earlier, says that the Watchmen movie will be out Mar '09.

NakedOnMyChain -> RE: The Watchmen (7/21/2008 10:23:41 PM)

I read an article some months ago about how they were going to make a Death: The High Cost Of Living movie, and Gaiman was co-directing.  I haven't heard anything since then, but I nearly wet myself when I read the article, and that's not even my kink.

Oh, definitely Transmet.  And I want to see Fables on the big screen!

Some of the casting choices do not inspire confidence at all ...

Since Heath publicly stated that the character was so disturbing to him that it caused him to be unable to sleep, the movie did contribute to his death.  To date, that is the only connection to his real life that has been found.  Perhaps had he been a little darker in real life, he would not have needed the sleeping pills that killed him.
