sblady -> RE: If I had my life to live over... (7/21/2008 6:14:03 PM)

If I had my life to live over, I would let go of silly fears and sometimes leap before I looked.  I hate that I allowed society and my very strict upbringing dictate how I lived my life, especially as an adult.

I'm sure I have more regrets, but at least I've let go of some things and plan on having the time of my life while I'm still alive and kicking!! [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m9.gif[/image]

If I had to do it over... Well, I actually haven't had the time to do much...

I am happy to say, I would not change that many situations,
if I had my life to live over.
Of course, I would change a few things.

Fortunately for me, my life is not over, Popeye.
There are many changes that I have made and I am making.[:D]
You may not be able to live your life OVER......
But you can change your life NOW, and live it the way you would IF
you could live it over!

Make every day count~
It is never to late to have a happy ending.

The Navy recruiter came to my house in my senior year of high school.  Of course this was after I told him no on the telephone!  I had two of my buddies to thank for that; they gave the guy my name.  The Marines, Air Force, and Army all called me a dozen times too.  The closest I got to being in the military was taking two years of ROTC in college.

If I'd have stayed with that program, I'd probably be a Captain in Iraq or Afghanistan.  So I don't regret dropping it for a minute.

I regret a couple of women I should have steered clear of, and I regret fucking around and goofing off through much of my twenties.  I could have had a medical degree if I'd actually taken my schooling seriously and not changed majors 4 different times.  LOL.  But I had a good time.  The 90's were a blast.  All in all, I don't regret too much.

LOL, Slaveboy,....you're fuckin' easy mate! (LOL!)

One thing that even Celtic Lord don't even realize is that; we're fuckin' PRICKS!!!
LOL!!!

Oh man - the ulitmate question that I've asked myself time and time again - what would I do the same or change if "do overs" weren't simply a thing of childhood games.

Let's see :

I wouldn't have walked out on my voice coach half way through my sophomore year the first time in college, despite being pissed at her for going directly against what I'd told her I wanted.  I would instead of waited until the end of the semester, gotten on the plane that she wanted to put me on to Europe to finish my music training at the Conservatory in Austria.  She had it all arranged - all I had to do was finish out the year, pack my bags, and go - room, board, tuition, even spending money and the plane ticket already account for and waiting for me!  Problem was, I had explicitly told her I did NOT want a career On Stage - I wanted to get my teaching degree - and therefore she was absolutely NOT to make the tape of my performances and practices that she wanted to make to send collegues there.  She did it anyway, got everything arranged, and then informed me I Was going to do so.  At 19, it pissed me off to the point of rage, I told her to go fuck herself, walked out of her studio on campus, and never went back.

Changing that One Decision would have changed everything after that.  I wouldn't have met my ex husfreak, I wouldn't have gotten pregnant with my 21 yr old, I wouldn't have spent 17 1/2 years as a single primarily stay at home parent to a severely handicapped child, I wouldn't have gone through a devestating divorce FROM the exhusfreak, wouldn't have gone through the sucession of bad relationships with absolute loosers that followed.

Instead, I would have finished my music degree, come back to the States, probably gotten hired by the Metropolitan Opera as part of the chorus, worked my way clawing and kicking through the ranks, and have been performing lead roles by now and getting ready to retire within the next 5 years.

Change a different decision, made about the time that I got pregnant with the older spawn, and I'd be retiring from the Air Force right about now.  I intended to go in.  I had taken the ASVAP, scored well, looked good for OCS since I had college hours behind me already - and even went for my physical.  It was at my physical to go into the military that I found out I was pregnant.  My instinct was to abort - instead of doing so, I asked him what His opinion was, and he was (at the time and on the surface) thrilled with the idea of becoming a father - so we ended up married instead.  If I'd kept my mouth shut and followed my instincts, I would have aborted and gone ahead into the military.

It's fun to fantasise about what might have been, but fun isn't necessarily meaningful. It's too depressing, in the end, to consider the possibilities and to face so many potential regrets. So fuck it, I'd do it all the same all over again.

So there :-p.

I'd rather be able to change the future than worry about the past...........

Oh wait, I can!!!!!! [;)]

Quivver -> RE: If I had my life to live over... (7/21/2008 7:23:34 PM)

I should have enlisted in the Army back in the early 80's ....

Arpig -> RE: If I had my life to live over... (7/21/2008 7:51:57 PM)

Myself...I would do it all differntly

DesFIP -> RE: If I had my life to live over... (7/21/2008 8:50:00 PM)

Like Mike, I'm torn. I would have liked to have gotten my master's, MLS, but then I wouldn't have married and have my kids. And they're of utmost importance to me.

WOW! Great answers!!!!!!
Let's keep this one going for a bit!!!
Thank you ALL!

Thadius -> RE: If I had my life to live over... (7/21/2008 9:03:24 PM)

I can only respond with my father's favorite saying "If I would have known I was gonna live this long, I would have taken better care of my body".

All of the successes and failures add up to make me who I am today, I don't know that I would change a thing, except maybe for that one Saturday night that I still can't remember...

Wow!!!
KittinSol. you need a good spanking!
I look at life and say "Why not"; you look at life and say; I can't!
(I bet D. A. could teach you a thing or two!)
Don't be afraid my Kittin!!!

Vendaval -> RE: If I had my life to live over... (7/21/2008 11:18:01 PM)

My sentiments are pretty close to yours, Thadius.  Yes, I made some impulsive and foolish decisions along the way, but those mistakes were learning experiences that shaped who I am today.

ReginaCaeli -> RE: If I had my life to live over... (7/22/2008 12:26:03 AM)

If I had to do it over again I'd have skipped college (and the student loans I racked up in the process)... or at least gone to a school far away from my parents (and out-of-state family). Worked more - and at more interesting jobs than the standard summer fare - travelled more, got laid more. Was easier - and, er, quieter - to follow the dictates of my mum, I guess... indicative of my submissive nature, or retroactively crystal-clear sign that the woman should have gone on her meds many years before she finally did?

If I had to live my life over agian, I would kill who ever created disco in the 70's.  Jeez that sucked for someone like me who was just happy rolling one up and smoking it...what was the question again

pahunkboy -> RE: If I had my life to live over... (7/22/2008 7:37:08 AM)

If I had to do it over.

I would have taken better care of my teeth.

I would not have gotten that las tstudent loan.

I would have moved to pa in 1985 instead of 1988.

I would not have triggerred anything which ended me up in court.

I would be nicer.

Less afraid.

I would not put even 1 penny in mutual funds.

I would still have gone to college.

I would still serve in Americore,  [US domestic peace core]

I would have been brighter when a guy tried to ask me out.

I would tell more people what they want to hear then my rants.

I would have been less worrying to poor mom.

I would have waited about 2 years before I came out to my family. [tho I was backed into the corner]
