StrongSpirit -> Question about inverse pictures (7/20/2008 10:12:13 AM)

Everyone once in a while I come across someone that have inverted the colors of their photo.

Can someone please tell me why they do this?

Do they think that no one else can download their photo and invert it back again?

Do they think it just looks cool?

- Perplexed

They do it for all the reasons you mentioned. They probably realize that people can un-inverse it, but it's less likely they will be recognized on a quick glance. They also think it looks cool. Personally, it's kind of annoying to me. If you're going to post a picture, someone is going to figure out who you are, not matter how you alter it. If you want to be seen, then be seen, but bravely.

hmm...inverting my image gives me my natural blonde hair back....

interesting....

That's why when I think to invert a picture, instead of doing it digitally, I do it physically. For instance, I do a handstand. That way I appear inverted and no one will recognize me when I am out and about on my feet unless they do a handstand. What are the odds that someone is going to be out and about and doing handstands, right?

Don't mind me, I'm being silly ;-)

I agree that it must be done for privacy and/or for an artistic effect. When it's done for privacy, it is possible that one is not thinking it can be inverted back, or instead thinking that only few people will expend that extra effort and the inversion will serve some purpose towards preserving privacy.

Cheers,

Sea

Yes, you could take the time and trouble to invert it back. But have you ever done so? I think very few of us while idly looking through profiles is going to say "aha, here is an inverted pic of someone I know nothing about so I will turn it back to normal for no good reason".

Usako -> RE: Question about inverse pictures (7/20/2008 1:13:30 PM)

It's for privacy or to be "artistic."

I personally just find it annoying. And I don't see why anyone would waste the time to invert it back, as mentioned. If I wanted a clear picture of them that badly then I'd just talk to them and ask. But it's usually such a turn off I ignore the profile anyway.

I always just thought it was to give the pic some way to stand out...

I have no idea what inverting the colours means.  Do you mean making it black and white?  If that is the question, you can try and invert the black and white on ours if ya like.  It won't go.  Some were taken black and white.[:D]

If you mean, inverting the image itself, don't know why people do that, particularly when things like words can be seen as reversed.

Not sure why it bothers you so much.  If it isn't your thing, then you know you are not compatable with the person and just ignore, don't you?

No Dark,  he's talking about someone making their photo look like a negative.  Yeah, you can copy them and paste them into a photoshop type program.  But the question remains, why the hell would you?

GreedyTop -> RE: Question about inverse pictures (7/20/2008 1:50:36 PM)

*tacklesmooces n hugs to ya both*  it is a rockin' pic, isnt it??

Oh, it's "arty" and it makes people think you are soooo high tech! LOL

Inversions, "swirls"... anything that doesn't outright erase the image info on a pic can be reversed. I was watching a "Catch a Predator" Type show on MSNBC the other night and they had a short bit on how the cops are picking some of these creeps up by doing simple reversals on their photos...

Okay, rule #1: if you are doing something illegal, and morally indefensible, DON'T POST EVIDENCE OF IT ON THE INTERNET! How fucking stupid can these jerks be?

Still, it's a warning to the rest of us. If McSame gets into office, and with habeas corpus erased, the GOP regime might launch a witch hunt against law abiding pervs like us.

kdsub -> RE: Question about inverse pictures (7/20/2008 4:05:38 PM)

To invert colors you are finding their opposite values... In RGB mode you subtract the existing values from 255... For instance 255 is white... subtract 255 from 255 and you have 0...which is black.

It gets a little more complicated with colors...you have to subtract 255 from each channel value.

If you take Red...R 255, G 0, B 0 ... you get R= 255-255 or 0...G= 255-0 or 255  B= 255-0 or 255. The new value is Cyan or R 0,  G 255, B 255. Cyan is the opposite of red.

I think it's probably for a myriad of reasons, the main one probably striving for artistic impression and a way to make their profile stand out from others(their reasons, sometimes the actual results are mixed, [;)])

You're welcome Dark.

DesFIP -> RE: Question about inverse pictures (7/20/2008 4:47:36 PM)

It also allows their physical appearance to be seen without a clear face shot. So if someone wants proof they're talking to a female who isweight, height, proportionate, such a negative would do that without losing anonymity.
