Here's a true little story that I'd like to hear your thoughs about. I recently sold my old laptop to a coworker after I thought I had cleaned off all my collected bondage pics (I knew I should have reformatted the harddrive). He brought in the laptop to work to have another coworker (female) load some new programs, during which she found some old bondage pics. Given the fact that no one at work knows about my bdsm ways. She saw some of the porn and mentioned it to the laptop buyer and told him there was a lot of porn on it. To make a long story short, when she ran into me at work she looked at me with this devilish grin. What do you think she was thinking?

Damn,.....I can't even imagine what most of the people I work with or friends would think.  Talk about awkward,....damn,.....

UglyTruth -> RE: Laptop mistake (7/18/2008 8:15:03 PM)

Maybe she was thinking you did it intentionally.

SurrenderForMe -> RE: Laptop mistake (7/18/2008 8:19:59 PM)

If she grinned, she isn't offended.  Anything else you would have to explore on your own.

"You're pretty cute for a technological doofus".

Women.

when i replaced my last computer i was going to give it to my son.  my friend informed me that he thought he got everything off of it.  one night i decided to just search around for stuff and found a bunch of naughty things.  i decided it wasnt' worth anyone else seeing so i took a hammer to it.  just sayin. [:D]

see thats why you save pics and stuf on disks or a thumb drive so when you sell your computer the naughty stuff was never saved on the computer to be found.

We always use an external drive to store pics etc, what would happen if my grandson open up some of his papaws stuff smile..Besides the way government and society is now days you can have your computer seized at the very hint of a scandal..5 years ago Diane's website was hacked and every pics etc was stolen and poped up every where on the net...

Could be that she's as into internet porn or bondage pics as you are and was grinning at a like-minded person.  Or she may simply have been thinking "Gotcha!"  Or she might have thought the situation of something of a social gaffe like this was in itself just a funny one... In any case, the devilish grin says it all. :)  I doubt she was the least offended or shocked.

well since i wasn't looking to sell it, i would have just given it to you...unkown naughty stuff and all.  it makes a difference if the next owner doesn't mind seeing "stuff" lol.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Laptop mistake (7/19/2008 6:27:56 AM)

She was probably thinking there were a few things she came across she'd like to do (with) you.  I'd only worry about her thoughts if she'd veered quickly to the far end of the hallway to avoid you, and puckered up like a petrified raisin.

Just for future reference:
I save such things to my desktop, then upload them to my online server for storage, and delete off my desktop, and then promptly empty my recycle bin.  I never have to worry about where to find things on my computer I don't want there that way and I don't have to worry about forgetting something is there - because its easily visible on my desktop and hard to overlook.  I have a brand new laptop (god it is soooo gorgeous!), and I gave my old laptop to my boys.  Before handing it over to them, I did a system recovery on it.  My system is a good one, but there are some things their mom has done that they really don't need the visual of.

Always remember that software tools exist to recover files.

One solution is to use a software such as TrueCrypt to encrypt all your BDSM stuff.  I find it to be extremely worthwhile.

I felt very glad of it when I had to have my power plug replaced.

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: Laptop mistake (7/19/2008 11:10:37 AM)

If it were me, most of the folks at my work would be thinking "Why am I SO -not- surprised?"

For you, maybe its "Wow, I never realized how... interesting... he is!" [:D]

Next time spend a little on a new hard drive if you're that worried about it.  There really isn't a definite way to have a clean hard drive any other way.  Sure, you can do wipes and encryption and all that jazz, but if it's on the market you can bet that there is a chance someone else can still recover it.

I tend to think that if someone is going through THAT much trouble to uncover someone's files, they have bigger problems than their BDSM interests being discovered.
